The Paris-based artist Shonen Bat takes Corrupt Data’s sound of reformed nostalgia, and transports it to a place of luscious organic sound, and glittering futurism, in the eclectic ‘Shapes of Disruption’. 

Nitro engine keeps the pace in the midsection of this EP. Sticky and clicky percussion snaps beneath sharp, nostalgic trance stabs. The playful cut Voodoo Pills follows a crystal and aqueous melody flowing throughout a swampy and leafy treeline of break patterns. This is sharply contrasted in the mechanical, and synthetic sound of ‘Zuckerborg’; an AFX-ian piece of IDM, with hurtling, bit crushed breaks and a palpitating 8-bit synthesiser.  The EP comes to a paranoid conclusion with ‘Meth Lab’: a dark excursion into the cellars. Swelling low ends surge and mutate, as erratic metallic glitches punch through to the surface.
