Rich Nines (He/Him/They) is a Canadian multi-genre DJ and co-curator of the LIT Mix Series from the Light Twerkerz / Butt Hertz Records squad and we are hyped to have them through for the 89th installment of the Sublimix Series. Clocking in at 87 minutes of absolute vibes across the 125 - 145 bpm spectrum. We are absolutely living for the eclectic selections of this mix and we hope ya'll feel the same! 

"With this mix I’m stoked to introduce myself as a DJ via Sublimate’s platform to more listeners in the USA and PWN. Personally, while I moved from Toronto to BC twelve years ago, I’ve yet to go down the coast and connect in person with all the friends and American communities there I interact with and respect remotely. This is my first dancefloor-oriented guest mix for a label in the USA, so I’ve done my best to get you up to speed on what my Canadian dancing friends have been shaking their butts to over 25 years of me DJing multi-genre rave/club parties between Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.  Here I had a blast mixing through a full spectrum of rhythms and vocals over the 125-145bpm tempo range;  from house, techno and garage through dancehall, r’n’b and rap, hardcore jungle breaks, grime and dubstep. These influences all represent my personal POV as a Toronto-born white settler of British/Dutch/Norwegian ancestry, now residing on unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples in Vancouver, BC - I invite you to listen with me connecting the post-colonial diasporic musical dots between Canadian, American and UK bass music of the past 30 years, reflecting on today’s sounds and politics grounded in a continuum of counter-cultural movements through dance."

Three years on from the release of Rhys Adams aka YesKing's 'Re-Record... Not Fade Away', we are delighted to live up to the album's title by presenting two previously unheard remixes of standout tracks 'Hardground' and 'Overproof'.
Featuring heart-stopping vocals by Mel Uye-Park- er & Rioghnach Connolly, 'Hardground' was the album's lead single and it's easy to see why. Bit- tersweet, understated atmospheres call to mind vintage Massive Attack and Portishead, while Rhys's deft arrangement builds the track into a horn and drum-laden epic. Providing a vintage version in their own unique style, legends in their own bath-time Crazy P are first up on remix du- ties. Surely one of the best live acts on the planet right now, the UK outfit's rework is full of funky guitar licks, classic piano chords and live percus- sion, creating a disco-crossover anthem of size- able proportions. Staying in the disco/house are- na, engineer and producer O. De Lanzac turns in a silky-smooth version, with eerie chords under- pinned by a rock-solid bassline, calling to mind the eclectic, soulful brilliance of her 2012 BBE de- but ‘Uncut’.
Displaying an affectionate tip-of-the-hat to 'Ghost Town' by The Specials, 'Overproof' is surely one of the best loved and most-played cuts on 'Re- Record... Not Fade Away'. DJ and edit maestro Sam Redmore raises the tempo a little whist somehow smoothing the track out at the same time, retaining the blissful dubbed-out vibe of the original version. Listen to Sam's subtle retouch of 'Overproof' and it's clear to see why the Birming- ham native can count Craig Charles and Gilles Pe- terson among his ever-growing number of fans.

Believe me, I don't take 'They Reminisce Over You' lightly... This is one of my all time absolute favourite tracks, hip hop or otherwise, and it's not something I'd just throw anything under or risk messing with it just for fun. So let me explain the beat in the background a bit first...

I was working on some things with Buck 65 from around 2009 to 2011-ish, and we got a lot done in that time. Some of it has come out (the Dirtbike albums, 20 Odd Years, and a few extra bits and pieces), and some of it just hasn't been possible to complete. We'll hopefully get ther eventually but it's cool, it'll happen sometime. I made some tracks for Buck to use in live performances, and I decided to go all out with the Amelie soundtrack composed by the phenomenal Yann Tiersen (who would later work with the god Sage Francis on 'The Best Of Times'). I edited it a fair bit and lined up some breaks and extras here and there, and got it all in line with Buck's 'Wicked And Weird', so all the verses and choruses would hit at the right times. I've seen him do it live and he just kills it like crazy.

I really wanted to play the beat to folks, I love the soundtrack so much and I like how this version turned out, and so I thought it would be a good chance to try and combine it with a carved-in-marble classic like TROY. So this is what we have here, with a few additional edits and tweaks on that beat I made for Buck.

Like I say, I know the weight of what I'm using, and the power of classics like this. I grew up listening to hip hop and revisiting my favourites constantly, and I hold this one sacred!

I hope you like this version of it anyway, and that somewhere in the world, Pete Rock isn't shaking his head in disapproval. I'll settle for a 3 o' clock half-mast thumbs up...
