The Adventures of Soul Clap Episode 52 was originally posted May 20th, 2009.

Sometimes the quality of talent that we have at our weekly Wednesday party, Midweek Techno, just BLOWS me away. Like does Boston even realize the resource they have right under their NOSES??? Doubtful, but alas, we keep on truckin.

Take for example a few months back when we PROUDLY presented the extraordinary talents of the young producer/live performer Nicholas Jaar. At only 19 years old (a FRESHMAN at Brown University) this young French transplant and musical prodigy has created quite a stir with releases for the likes of Wolf + Lamb and AirDrop Records and now on his own imprint, Clown and Sunset.

Iâ€™ve always been a bit iffy about Ableton sets, quite often it seems like the energy just isnt there. Nicolas Jaarâ€™s performance however, is quite the contrary, his music weaves together like the gils of a french accordion, taking us all over the musical spectrum, way beyond simply DANCE music. Melodies, moods, emotions, seems like skyâ€™s the limit for young Nico.

Just a few more tidbits: Seth Troxlerâ€™s remix of Nicolas Jaar â€œThe Studentâ€ was the flipside to the recent deep bomb â€œAphrika EPâ€ that seems to be getting canned everywhere. Donâ€™t sleep just cuz it doesnâ€™t feature The Angelizer. Also, Nico is in cahoots with fellow Parisian Le Loup (performing at Midweek Techno June 3rd), who has also just released digitally the â€œSee Line Epâ€ on Wolf + Lamb, again with a remix of â€œThe Studentâ€ and another titled â€œNicoâ€™s Bath Danceâ€ which I imagine was created by both of these two yoots.

I took the opportunity to showcase my vision of a house mix that goes on a one hour journey through a myriad of styles. This mix draws from many musical influences and moods from around the world with an emphasis on movement! Dancing your journey is the intent here with bass heavy chuggers, latin inspired cuts, soulful vibes, deep jackers, Afro heat, cheeky disco nods, a touch of acid and a few of house music’s (many) important productions. The mix moves along, never usually playing one track too long by itself, weaving a dance floor odyssey that never feels rushed allowing the segments of each selection to naturally form a cohesive, timeless whole.

Shout out to Gavin Hardkiss. I was inspired to play a few of his newer releases. A tribute of sorts in celebration of a much anticipated plan to have him headline the Living Room at this year's Shambhala Music Festival. Was an honour indeed.

Shine On You Crazy DJ is a mix tribute to Pink Floyd. I scoured the internet for the finest remixes of the legendary band and compiled the best of the best for this set. The mix is accompanied by Rob “Potter” Green on live Saxophone, Flute and synths for special moments and fx. Thank you homie!! 
This concept mix has been over a year in the making and I'm really excited to finally upload it for the world to hear...
