Crosstown Rebels’ sub-label Rebellion returns with a fourth instalment of its ongoing SOULS series, with fresh tracks from a selection of exciting, up-and-coming talent.

Curated by label head Damian Lazarus, Rebellion’s excellent SOULS series has always transcended sounds and scenes to dig deep into the most forward-thinking new electronic niches. It has a deeply embedded spiritual theme, like most projects with which Lazarus is associated, and this volume again connects the dots between a number of innovative producers from across the globe.

Belgrade and Mykonos-based duo MĪMĪ x FY open up with ‘Robotic Mode’, linking with Estray for a silky synthlaced house cut that goes deep into a cosmic future. The deft chords, spoken words and sci-fi signifiers enrich the groove perfectly. Brazil's Vini Pistori is next with ‘Hypnotized’, a scintillating fusion of pixelated melodies and bright, starry-eyed chords over a drawn-out and languid groove that is perfect for the late-night hours.

Frequent collaborators MILI and Hoomance then step up with ‘Casa Mama’, a playful cut with a carnival feel thanks to the characterful horns which bounce about over the crisp drums. It's a track full of soul and sunshine that captures the joy of dancing outdoors. Israeli-born DJ and producer OMRI closes things with the rubbery bass and skewed synth futurism of his off-grid percussive masterclass, 'Funk Rhythm.’

Another taste-making statement from the label and Lazarus, Rebellion presents SOULS Vol.4 is loaded with the sounds of tomorrow across another excellently curated package.

D-Nox and André team up once more for ‘Sessions Part 1’

Clearly, a collaboration that works for both artists, ‘Sessions’ represents the next phase for the multinational pairing. Whether remixing each other or appearing on the same labels, D-Nox and André’s musical blueprint is finely tuned, as they continue to grow together artistically.

Opening with ‘Discovery’, we immediately deep dive into a world of liquid cool beats, icy pads, and gated vocals. Smooth and chuggy, the track develops a wickedly warm vibe among the deep keys and cinematic sweeps. Uniquely familiar and something you’ll likely hear for a long time to come.

Next up, ‘Cosmic’ follows suit. Rubbery bass and sparse percussion make way for keyed melodics and ethereal vocals. Creating a deeply spiritual sound that transcends current trends, it harks back to the essence of the original prog sound - hard but groovy, fast but trancey. Truly a work of genius.

Rounding out the trio, ‘Brisa’ has housier feels. More robust and upfront than its brothers, it’s a spiky assault of the senses that bristles with peak time energy. The breaks are all about hands in the air and knowing smiles of appreciation; the melodies about the swaying enjoyment of finally reaching that blissful disconnect from your problems.

You owe it to yourselves to own this EP. It’s phenomenal.

reerange hit their 250th release running and who better to announce this respectable landmark than label co-founder, A&R and most regular contributor Jimpster. As a producer and DJ with almost 30 years releasing records, he shows absolutely no sign of slowing down, and with the label heading towards it’s 25th year Jamie Odell still seems as hungry as ever to continue pushing himself and the label eagerly into the new decade.Joining Jimpster on the title track One is NYC native Casamena. The producer, DJ, vocalist and label boss (he launched Ocha alongside Osunlade and has remixes and releasing gracing the likes of Vega, Yoruba and Strictly Rhythm) delivers some fresh hip-house vibes inspired by house-dance slams, b-boy battles and Body & Soul sessions. Jimpster’s production makes the perfect pairing, melding layers of deep pads and punchy 707 percussion, his deft musical touch ensuring the end result is warm, soulful and uplifting.On remix duties we have none other than the man of the moment, legendary producer whose credentials includes names like Slum Village, Mahogany, Sound Signature, J Dilla and Dwele to name just a few; Detroit’s own Waajeed. His One Nation Remix goes strong on epic strings, hooky Moog lines and masterful beats, thinning out the vocals to make room for pizzicato stabs in what is effectively a deep, emotive dub which bumps along flawlessly.Closing out the EP we have another original entitled The Way It Is.
