Sebastian Mullaert DJ Set @ Red Light Radio Amsterdam (26.11.16)

Following Rhythm Büro's debut release last year, the Kiev-based label has returned with a successive RB002. In a similar vein to their first release, this release features Vero and Na Nich as well as a welcome addition from an up-and-coming Ukrainian producer, Lobanov K. A2 finds a remix from the notable and much-applauded 'DJ's DJ,' Eric Cloutier. Sonically, the record ranges from deeper, housey motifs and dubbed-out techno ventures on the A-side to electro-esque and slightly weirder break-beat expositions on the B-side.

'Salute' is Vero's debut as a solo artist and to commemorate the occasion, the track gets a proper rework by one of techno's prominent underground heroes, Eric Cloutier. The A-side represents the deeper side of what RB002 has to offer, and both its tunes prove that the record could become a long-living staple of a house DJ's record bag as well as a techno head’s. The B-side takes a different turn: Na Nich's offering is a track reminiscent of his drum and bass roots, with similar ethos of space and break, yet paced to appeal to the contemporary techno dance floor. Rhythm Büro newcomer Lobanov K. gives a fine example of an explosive and spaced out electro-bomb, the old-school homage here is clear yet the tempo and final touches are indeed contemporary. Gate146 is a future classic, it won't come as any surprise when we hear this one in the sets of some of the most notorious diggers as well as some of techno's top selectors.

Oscar Mulero’s own Warm Up label goes 50 releases old and to celebrate, there is an special release planned: A double remixes vinyl pack as well as an extended digital release including the four previously only vinyl available Pattern Series.

The remix pack will have revisions of the original Oscar’s works by the likes of: Silent Servant, Cassegrain, Kanding Ray, Donatto Dozzy, Shlømo and Chevel. Each one getting the essence of the originals but adding their very personal touch to the pack. As a result all kinds of techno flavors are represented, from the harsh and rude to the liquid and floaty.

If you weren’t lucky enough to get the translucent limited vinyl pattern series, now you have the chance of having them in your digital crate via the online version of the release.

Up next from the Rhythm Büro label is an EP from Cyspe, who might be better known as Robin
Koek or for being one half of the almighty Dutch techno duo Artefakt. RB003 marks a special
occasion for the label in releasing a full EP from a single artist. After This World seems to proceed
forward fittingly on the same path once paved by Cyspe's debut record 'Amnesia', released on
Koek’s own label, Insula, in 2014.
From the label’s inception, Koek has been a supporter and close friend of the Rhythm Büro team.
Playing live at Rhythm Büro parties as Cyspe as well as live with Artefakt, the two have worked
and partied close together. A release from Cyspe became a very welcome natural step for all.
A1 bursts open with ‘Nexus,’ a cerebral-atmospheric-blanket of a dance track, arguably the
strongest offering on ‘After This World’. Apparently, quite the story can be told in just seven and a
half minutes for those attuned to listening. ‘Mindscape’ comes next, providing a notably nice
ambient contrast to its dance floor-feeding predecessor. A2 maintains a similar vein and flavor of
the sublime, if not a further development toward the heavenly and spiritual. The B-side proves to be
a prime example of what ‘deeper techno’ is capable of: grooves that drive the dancer from this
realm to the next. Both 'Earwitness' and the title track are sure to be rich vehicles for those sacred
'closed-eyes' moments on the dance floor.

The ‘Infiltrated’ EP has two boomy, 4x4 rollers on the A-side, VRIL’s broken-beat, ethereal version on the B1 and lastly the title-track, a twisted stream of grainy modulations.

Experimentation is nothing new to SOOHAN, and yet, the borders to his musical journey seemingly have no boundary.

Touching down with his sixth full-length project, SOO SOO STUDIO, Soohan further erases walls between genre and blurs lines between original compositions and sampled material, all while diving into new musical territory. Sounds from classic American pop music, house, Baltimore club, and drum and bass blend with Soohan's distinct affinity for regional folk and dance music styles from around the world - a rededication to his mission of drawing the path from foreign to familiar.

At 13 tracks and just over an hour in running time, SOO SOO STUDIO marks Soohan's most diversely-sourced work to date. Unfolding as a journey through an array of seemingly incongruous influences, the sounds come together with effortless style, leading the listener through a meandering rush of sounds, culminating in a euphoric finish. A must-hear experience for fans of polyrhythmic dance, club music, and rhythms from beyond the western world.

Deep’a & Biri curate a bevy of much-respected underground techno specialists to further unravel and reimagine the vital and sophisticated sounds of ‘Dominance’, their full-length LP released earlier in 2018.

Midnight Operator, the collaborative project of Mathew and Nathan Johnson, begin the set with their trippy and transcendent take on ‘False Memories’. A rare remix from the pair, their return has been worth the wait; an expertly executed techno excursion, it simultaneously burrows deeper into the psychedelic textures of the original, while providing a club-centred kick.

Further blending the experimental and the physical, Peter Van Hoesen provides a typically complex and compelling take on Voltage, deconstructing the original and expanding each element in myriad, rave-specific directions.

Deep’a & Biri enlist rising Dutch DJ-producer Deniro contributes a rolling, hypnotic version of Dominance’s spectral centrepiece, ‘Alpha Cephei’, while Z.I.P.P.O. charges down a tense, big-room industrial tunnel for his interpretation of ‘Seeking Solace’, hitting on a cathartic groove after a passage of uncompromising noise.

Concluding the EP, Steinlac’h Records founder Wice reimagines ‘Theories of Loneliness’ in dubby but propulsive fashion.
