I close my POTENCIAL BIÓTICO album with this contemporary revival of a philosophical song I wrote 19 years ago when my grandpa died.

Could describe it as a requiem for guitar quartet, 2 voices, rhythmic base & church bell (you may know the piano version at https://soundcloud.com/esemanolain-ruizzo/sets/piano-sessions-2012 album).

A mostly slow piece with lotta soul and no artistic ambition (but a little ‘Pros&Cons’ air to the end ;).

This is a song that Chris (cgmaness) came up with on the bass with a little guitar. He sent it to me, Tez (Llanpsych), and Ken (K2 and the 3) via BandLab and we added our respective parts. I added slide and vibraphone, Tez added the killer guitar solo and crescendo, and Ken added some amazingly tricky drums. I like that the time was off by a beat. it made it challenging and fun to come up with parts for it. Chris is also a master producer who took all of our parts and mixed them into this fun journey. We also did two more together which will be out soon.

My old SC mate Micah played drums to test a friend’s recording set, and sent me some cuts full of improvised breaks and tempos. I love time changes, yet this was really challenging!

I finally chose two of them and jammed with bass until I learnt his story telling.
Then, I clicked on the red button, again and again.

Floating Point (with Micah Gettys)

Always loved this song by Carly Simon. It’s so easy to relate too because no matter what your situation or station is in life you immediately think of someone you know when you hear the chorus for the first time.  I hesitated doing this cover because I couldn’t ever recall a male interpretation of this song. After doing some research several male artists including Marilyn Manson have given tribute to this song. That’s when I decided to go for it and record this version. 

In her memoir Carly Simon revealed that the song was about Warren Beatty. Go figure.
