After the dynamo sophomore release that was 2013's "Curiosities", New Zealand's Lord Echo returns to Brooklyn's Bastard Jazz label, this time producing Kiwi trio The Elder Statesman comprised of twin brothers and Wellington fixtures Christopher (piano) and Daniel (double bass) Yeabsley with Lord Echo himself on percussion and drums. 

On the "A" side, Montreux Sunrise is mellow meander through a laidback early 70s souljazz vibes, while "Trans Alpine Express" picks things up on the B side with a deep, spiritual piano groove, upfront doublebass, and Echo's percussion perfectly in the pocket.

Ragoo Records presents Luzee's "Afro Sketches," a beat tape woven from the very dust of forgotten archives. Imagine a sonic cartographer, tracing the faded rhythms of field recordings from Africa and South America onto the circuitry of his MPC. In the studio, the raw samples are not just played but processed, warmed through the ageing transistors of a Tascam mixer until they pulse with a new, analogue life. This is music as reclamation, where the crackle of the source vinyl becomes part of the texture, stitching the past to the present in a seamless, instrumental narrative. The final product is a deeply textured fabric of sound, distilled into nineteen tracks, honouring its roots not through imitation, but through a gritty, intuitive resurrection.

Clear Path Ensemble is the neu project and brainchild of Wellington jazz and sonic arts graduate Cory Champion. Also producing left field house and techno under the name Borrowed cs, Clear Path Ensemble is Cory’s first offering to the jazz gods. Having spent many years playing drums alongside some of New Zealand’s most talented musicians in the revered Wellington jam session scene this release is an amalgamation of the energy & spirit that the Wellington scene encompasses. Walking over the blurred lines of psychedelia and spiritual jazz and taking cues from planetary rhythms and celestial oddities, CPE invokes a higher sense of self through the transformative power of sound.
