For many this is the ultimate Disco Illusion; a record that should have been epoch making in its day, something that would have been a staple for David Mancuso, Larry Levan & Ron Hardy had it ever gotten distribution when it was originally released 34 years ago. Somehow time passed it by and it was only re-discovered in a warehouse in Trinidad last year. Since then it has been gaining momentum fast, with DJ support from Moodymann, MCDE, Floating Points & Kon, as well as original copies selling for four-digit sums. Part of the illusion is in the structure of the record. The A-side begins with a beautiful hazy disco song, but suddenly an Egyptian sounding bridge turns things inside out and the song opens up into stripped back proto-house jam complete with bubbling Sun Ra synths and Black Ark tape delay action. Then there’s the b-side, which sounds like Bob James after he had a taste of callaloo, with deep electronics and a mind-melting steel pan solo.

It is with great pleasure that we welcome back our Deep House Architect Onur Ozman with his latest single "Awakening" featuring Nica Brooke on the vocals. 

In its Original form, "Awakening" is a deep and jazzy house jam with a West Coast flair, broken style beats, trumpet licks, lovely keys and pads, dreamy sound EFX, Nica's sensual vox, and an old school vibe reminiscent of the early OM / Naked Music material. Onur also provides a beatless reprise version for the lazy lounge sessions.

First remix comes courtesy of the Hungarian master of Deepness aka Forteba. We honestly have no words to describe what he did except that he totally owned the vocals and delivered a masterpiece!!! Forteba provides an Instrumental mix as well. 

Last but certainly not least, we are extremely happy to welcome Simon Newby aka Da Sunlounge to our artist roster. Da Sunlounge has been a consistent figure in the Deep/Underground house scene for over 15 years and continues to impact it to this present day. He's been producing deep house music for over 13 years, with releases to date on some of the most recognized international label’s within the industry including Low Pressings UK, 2020 Vision, OM, Salted Music, Defected, Tango Recordings USA, Detour USA; Camouflage, Lost My Dog and of course his own labels Myna Music and Bambino Recordings.

When 'World Gone Crazy' was originally written in the early nineties as part of the Mind Body & Soul project Greg Wilson was then developing with singer Tracey Carmen, it was intended for an album that never was and only a demo version was ever recorded.

Its lyrics identified an information age already spiraling out of control. Two decades on however, and it’s far beyond anything anyone could have imagined back then. Originally referencing the post-acid house generation, ‘a generation lost and disillusioned’ now becomes the sixties generation, growing old in a world even more corrupt and confused than the one they thought they’d change.

Listening through the old MBS demos for tracks that might be updated for The Reynolds, it was suggested that 'World Gone Crazy' would be perfect for Leeds singer/musician The Reverend Cleve Freckleton, who came into our Super Weird orbit when he crossed paths with Blind Arcade at last year’s Latitude Festival. The gruff gravitas of The Reverend’s voice was exactly what the track needed, serving to give its words more relevance now than when they were written.

From an early age the gospel sound of Cleve’s family’s Pentecostal practices loomed large over his life and after a chance encounter with a pin-sharp pimp- turned-preacher, Cleve ventured to the depths of America with him. As ‘Minister of Music’ The Reverend worked in some of the Southern Belt’s most deprived neighbourhoods and even found himself performing to James Brown in a South Carolina penitentiary chapel.

Channeling the fire and spectacle of a spiritual laden Deep South service, Cleve found his own distinct groove in secular music upon returning to the UK. From recording with British neo funk stalwarts The New Mastersounds on their debut album to taking a band of musicians to Durban, South Africa on request of Leeds city council, Cleve’s forceful voice has reached a diverse set of ears.

'World Gone Crazy' was adroitly programmed by Peza, with The Reynolds and the song’s original singer, Tracey Carmen, providing powerful bvox and Ché Wilson weighing in with funk-laced rhythm guitar - Cleve cuts a commanding figure, calling out the world’s wrongs from his sonic pulpit.
