Cosmo Black has knocked together a re-edit of the 'Stones 1976 long forgotten lounge track Waiting on a Friend.  The addition of live bass, piano, analogue sweep synths and just enough kick lifts the opiate bossanova of Jagger/Richards from lounge room floor to dance floor.

After seeing them play at the Living Room on Sunset Boulevard, producer/musician Jack Millman became manager of the Afro Latin Blues Quintet +1, and signed them to Randy Woods (creator/owner of the Mira, Mirwood, Crestview, Surrey labels) in the late 1960s.Having released several albums the band morphed into the Afro Soultet For just one album, released in limited quantity on Millman's Banyan label. After their short stint as the Afro Soultet, the band became The Afro Latin Soultet releasing records with pianist Phil Moore III at the helm. The Afrodesia album will be re-issued on Luv N'Haight in early 2011. The album mixes jazz, Latin, funk, surf, and exotica - Aphro Bugaloo is one of the more jazz flavored joints.

If Daft Punk had written their song "Teachers" today, they would most definitely have had to include Herbie Hancock on the list... at least the late 70's version of Herbie that produced the cut edited here. Those crisp disco drums, rubbery bass line and, most noticeably, those talk box vocals, are featured all over their new album! But Herbie was doing it 35 years ago. Here's to the originators!

If you dig the edit, do yourself and the artist a favor and check out the original material. Daft Punk would aprove :)
