About this edit :
A friend once told me that our vision of the music landscape is skewed by what is available on internet. We believe that it is a mirror of the music that exists all around us, without realizing that it only hosts the music that major record labels would upload - leaving behind the rich & diverse music ecosystem from smaller & indie ones, that can only be found in record stores around the world. There has been in the past couple of decades an uptick in new labels like Habibi Funk or Analog Africa that would take on the gargantuan task of traveling, digging & republishing those gems - allowing us to discover this music. The credit goes to them. I couldn't be more thankful.

The minute I listened to this track, I was struck by its raw energy & the charisma of the singer. I had to make an edit, anything, that would let me play it alongside my tracks in sets. I've also tried not to take too much away from the voice & rhythm of the original one, while adapting it to a more club friendly format. I hope you enjoy it!

Growing up around Paris, Yasin Hazim learned about music through both his classical music training at the conservatory & his family's Moroccan & Algerian roots. It's from those influences ranging from Leonard Cohen, Keith Jarrett & Jacques Brel to Gnawa music, Abdel Halim Hafez & Reinette l'Oranaise that he draws his own style, ranging from Blues to folk music, sly elements of R&B, to his own blend of psychedelic disco and beyond.

About this edit :
I am happy to share this EDIT with you, which started as an idea about two years ago and had not been able to materialize until now. The inspiration came directly from my vinyl collection, where I have a lot of records from the 60s and 90s. "Before You" is an instrumental track, Jamming, from the album "Their Satanic Majesties Second Request" (1996) by The Brian Jonestown Massacre, an album inspired by "Their Satanic Majesties Request" (1967) by the Rolling Stones, the figure of Brian Jones and the psychedelia culture of the 60s.

I have always liked the free way of making music that this band has and and while working on the track, I had many memories of my first trip to India and Nepal when I was 19 years old, those same emotions that occur before starting a great adventure or a new path in your life is the one that I would like to convey in this song, which features Gabriel Feller's participation in Sitar, and samples from various sources, including one of my favorite films "Meetings with Remarkable Men" (1979) by Peter Brook, inspired by Gurdjieff's youth and his search for the meaning of life.

About this edit :
The original piece was shown to me on a sunny afternoon last summer in Brazil by a very dear friend, who said “dude you gotta remix this song, it’s so beautiful”.
From the admiration I feel for this friend came the inspiration to start the project. The process felt nourishing especially when I was studying the chords since they’re not on the usual 4/4 progression.

Max Tenrom is a friend, and above all, an artist I really admire. When I first heard 'Moka', I was immediately captivated by the incredibly inspiring vocals that invite you on a journey, and by the violin that resonated with me internally. I also enjoyed the overall groove of the track. For this remix, I wanted to bring in my melodic touch and add a hint of oriental influence, while contrasting it with techno elements, including my bassline and some melodic techno synths. This edit evokes the sound of latino psych rock supplemented with heavy percussion and  güiro as the main invitation to dance and drink tequilas. It is a tropical remembrance to a timeless movie scene from the classic Quentin Tarantino film From “Dusk Till Dawn“ (1996)
Where Salma Hayek (also from Veracruz) performs an iconic dance with a Burmese Python around her neck. This scene can be many times imitated but never equalled. The origin of the film is a revolutionary mexican cult film named “Satánico Pandemónium, El Diablo Va a México“ (1973) by Gilberto Martínez Solares. Historic film that Tarantino loved since he worked at a Blockbuster and discovered the VHS. The film involved nuns, nudity and satanic thoughts against the church. It was considered an extremely difficult stunt for the producer to pull off at the time because of the morality, censorship, and the influence of religion in the state decisions.

Sean Toja, multi disciplinary artist from Veracruz, Mexico. Co founder of @bailehibrido. About Tito & Tarantula 
Latin rockers Tito & Tarantula comprised singer/guitarist Tito Larriva, previously best known for founding the seminal Los Angeles punk band the Plugz. Larriva was born in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico but spent his early years living outside Fairbanks, Alaska; his family later relocated to El Paso, Texas, where he studied violin and flute as a member of his school orchestra. After high school he flirted with attending Yale University before landing in L.A. during the mid-'70s; there Larriva formed the Plugz, which in 1979 released their debut LP Electrify Me, the first album to emerge from the city's thriving punk scene. Shortly after scoring Alex Cox's 1984 cult classic Repo Man, the Plugz were rechristened the Cruzados, signing to Arista to release a self-titled 1985 LP; After Dark followed two years later, and the group disbanded in 1990. From there Larriva continued writing film music, also turning to acting; with guitarist Peter Atanasoff and a host of other L.A. session vets he eventually formed Tito & Tarantula, which quickly emerged as a major favorite on the local club scene. Among their most vocal supporters was filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, who not only enlisted the group to contribute material to his movies Desperado and From Dusk till Dawn, but also found small roles for Larriva in both; Rodriguez additionally helped produce 1997's Tarantism, released on the band's own Cockroach label. At the latest when you see Hermit Bob talking to mushrooms and scorning the mischief of mindless capitalistic consumerism, you know it's time to bring Tom Waits home to the club! By this I mean in particular the growing transcultural communities of transformation festivals and mindful clubbing worldwide concerned about global awareness and sustainability!
Looks like I can't talk about Tom Waits without talking about Jim Jarmusch... But besides my great admiration for both their artistic authenticity, sensitivity and for sure Tom's distinctive voice it were simply the raspy scat vocals that hooked me immediately to create this edit. Pure fun really!
The track combines two versions of the song (album 1976/Paris 1979) and brings them together slowed down with a cool shuffled downtempo vibe. The focus is on the scat vocals and original samples that work in A-Minor for a little more mysterious vibe.
And of course the notion of (not only) pasties is also - yes: delicate! We mustn't forget that part! Enjoy the ride!

⭐ Nous sommes un groupe d’artistes, amis et immigrants vivant à Montréal, et nous avons décidé de travailler ensemble dans une approche collaborative et interdépendante, à travers une plateforme multiculturelle et multidisciplinaire.

Nous croyons en la valeur des différentes cultures et des diverses façons d’apprécier l’art et l’Univers lui-même. C’est pourquoi nous avons créé Cosmovision Records, pour diffuser et propager l’art avec une racine folklorique tout en partant d’une approche contemporaine et positive, et incluant les nouvelles technologies musicales.
