My remix of the classic “Do Mangue a Manga” for Barbatuques. 

The single, released by Gyra Records, will be out on  Sunday, Jun/06. The signature body percussive sound and folkloric instruments of the Brazilian group gained extra weight with the addition of organic trap drums, mixed to thicken the track even more.

The DJ’s admiration for the band, founded almost three decades ago, is an old affair. Afterclapp used to go to shows in São Paulo since the 2000’s, when the project was created, serving as sonic inspiration and being added to all of his sets played in Brazil and Europe. 

For two years he worked on the track until the ideal sonority was found. Even with the trap beat, the music also translates soul within the original song. Therefore, it can be enjoyed in a wide range of environments, such as clubs and parties or a sunset far from downtown

Barbatuques - Do Mangue a Manga (Afterclapp Remix)

In this track, the cultural mix and the influences of Berlin's electronic scene meet the experimental rhythms of Brazil. The voice of Berliner artist Kotoe and the beats of Brazilian producer Meraki come together in this cover-style version of one of Brazil's most famous songs.

The remix was inspired by the song "Tic Tic Tac", a composition by Braulino Lima that became better known when it was released by the Amazonian group Carrapicho, becoming the number one hit in various parts of the world in 1996.

_Kotoe: @kotoek 
She was born in Japan, spent a great part of her life in Brazil and currently lives in Berlin. The cultural mix and the influences from the Berliner electronic scene are the result of her musical work where she takes textures from the Asiatic culture, South American sounds and mixes with dark beats and her own voice.

Her arrival in Berlin in 2015 made her fell in love with electronic music and to get involved and active in several collectives. Kotoe already presented herself in countries as: Japan, Chile, Germany, Croatia, Austria, Portugal and she was included in line ups from festivals such as Garbicz, Katzensprung, Moyn Moyn, Artlake and Melt.

Pedro Sugiura was born in Brazil and has his musical base inspired by the rich diversity of rhythms from his continent, always seeking to transmit this energy to the dance floors. Currently living in Amsterdam, Meraki has a unique identity and a very energetic sound.

The Brazilian producer and multi-instrumentalist Tazzio Puccinelli's original project is a live show of copyrighted electronic music. The artist has been making music for more than ten years and has released several independent works, such as the Sunny Haze EP, which is available on all platforms.

At the moment, the artist is putting his work together through DJ sets that focus on researching and mixing new sounds with his musical influences, as well as the production of other artists, partnerships, and his own work.

About Pinduca:
Pinduca (baptized as Aurino Quirino Gonçalves) or King of Carimbó  is a Brazilian musician, singer and songwriter in the Carimbó genre and rhythm from Pará in Brazil.

Belonging to a family of musicians, Pinduca began his career at the age of fourteen singing carimbó, being also called "Rei do Carimbó" disputing the title with Mestre Verequete, another singer and composer from the state of Pará. Pinduca is part of a generation of musicians who dared to transform popular rhythms from the interior of the state of Pará into radio hits, with the inclusion of innovative elements, musicians such as Mestre Verequete, Mestre Vieira and Mestre Cupijó.
From his first album, which he recorded in 1974, he inaugurated the sirimbó, a suitcase word which designates the fusion between the siriá and the carimbó, the tubes of which he was quick to shed (Sinha Pureza, Vamos Farrear…). 

He is then 37 years old, an advanced age for a first album, but he makes up for it by publishing during the decades which follow an album per year, with a regularity of metronome. After all, rhythm is his field and he proves it by creating many styles throughout his career. If not all have gone down in history, this is the case of the famous lambada that he inaugurated in 1976, even if his paternity is disputed by Mestre Vieira. Each in their own way, modernizes the carimbó by filling it with Caribbean rhythms and swapping the banjo for the electric guitar.
In 2017, his album No Embalo do Pinduca was nominated for the 2017 Latin Grammy for Best Brazilian Root Album.
