Rounding up a year which saw crucial releases from Iron Curtis and Quarion, »Can’t Help It« is the long awaited return of sample wizards Session Victim to the ep format. This Retreat 3-tracker is a profound, subtle and quite melancholic affair, perfect for those emotional moments in the early morning. Skillfully arranged and featuring the impeccable playing of Linnart Ebel, »Can’t Help It« is once again an essential statement from one of House Music’s most fascinating duo.
 »Pass The Diesel« begins with a stuttering beat, seagull like noises and muted chords that wouldn’t be out of place on a vintage Group Home instrumental. Staying on the aquatic tip, Session Victim introduce a beautiful Rhodes sequence which takes the track into a dream-like – dare we say californian? – direction. Spiced up with gentle synth noodlings, ethereal vocal snippets and a magical strings motive, »Pass The Diesel« bathes in the deeper shades of House without ever drowning in a cliché, thanks to its snapping drums and vivid arrangement. 
Slowing things down a notch, »Hyuwee« starts off with what is maybe the most unconventional instrument in Session Victim’s repertoire, the banjo! But the fear of witnessing these down-to-earth-boys actually becoming the boys-down-south vanishes after 30 seconds: a melancholic 3-Chord theme, snappy 808 patterns and funky drum fills lead the tune in a familiar (but vast) territory. Linnart Ebel’s talent is put to great use with subtle guitar licks that give a lively feel to the whole song. You will notice that Session Victim have labeled »Hyuwee« as an »instrumental«. Does it mean that we can expect a vocal version in the near future? All bets are on as to who will provide the vocals to this one … 
Flip the record over for the magnificent »Tearwiper«, a slow-house groover which might be Session Victim’s deepest excursion on wax so far. Abyssal chords, radio effects and a dragging 105 bpm beat set the stage for a grand sonic adventure. The track breaks down after the introduction of the guitar theme and a warm sub bass takes center stage in order to drive »Tearwiper« in a confident manner. Shakers and bubbling synths are floating around whereas Linnart’s hypnotic playing provides a steady backing to the bassline. Another breakdown and the elements are nicely washed away while a thoughtful guitar solo brings this underwater journey to an end.

Das Moth is the alias of the Tokyo-based musician and former punk band member Tim Sullivan. As Das Moth Sullivan says no to punk and yes to a fusion of angular basslines, beautiful, esoteric synths and undeniable dance energy."Moon" is like some long-lost post-punk Euro disco cut remade for the 21st century, while "Wrong" might be the kind of secret Balearic bargain basement discovery that Mark Seven might find on one of his record hunting trawls. With the assistance of Cutters Records resident studio wizard Nile Delta in the producers chair, the tracks walk the fine line between the evocative sounds of YMO and modern disco-not-disco grooves.As well as the two originals the digital EP contains an array of remixes from the likes of DFA faithful, Jacques Renault who takes the party from Manhattan loft to early morning Berlin warehouse lock-down.House heavyweights Kink &amp; Neville Watson provide a dub of "Wrong" that goes deeper than deep.Sidwho? from The Swiss renews his credentials as a disco kingpin by taking "Moon" on a tropical bass voyage and Rio Lobotomy force the energy up a notch with a sizzling disco-house rework.Das Moth has arrived, take a voyage and visit him on ‘Wrong/Moon’.

Cottam shot to notoriety in 2009 with three limited edition 12”s that blew up the underground deep house and nu-disco scenes with no advertising and no info – combining neo-soul, afrobeat and hip hop with slo-mo house grooves all three sold out in double quick time and ended up in many ‘best of 2009’ charts. 
Since then, Cottam has concentrated on developing his own style of sub-aquatic acid house – remixes for Luv Jam on Phonica’s label, Pattern Select on Delusions of Grandeur and Morning Factory on 20:20 Vision offshoot Fina have complemented original tracks on Quintessentials, Wolf Music, German undercover label Story and the summer anthem ‘Sunrise Sunset’. The journey continues with his most accomplished tracks yet on the Deep Deep Down EP for Aus Music and a remix for Geoff Leopard on Endless Flight due out early 2012. He hasn’t completely given up the re-works either with Cottam 4 seeing Plantlife get the treatment and there is even a Cliff Richard remix doing the rounds! Cottam is biding his time with much more music to come next year (when his toddler starts nursery) and he can devote more time to production.
A burgeoning career behind the decks has seen Cottam DJ around the world from London & Ibiza super clubs to the dirtiest basements of Berlin and Manchester. A studio mix recording can never match the off the cuff ideas and crowd interaction of a live set, that can take in anything from Balearic disco edits to rough techno slowed down to a sexy shuffling tempo, classic house to euphoric disco all mixed with a skill, grace and swagger, topped off with a trademark cap.
