Som en del av SASUSU Radio og vårt tromsøbaserte radioarbeid har vi i en lengre periode forsøkt å nå ut til folk i lokalområdet for å hente inn lokale stemmer, samt ny lyd og musikk. Beyond the fabled chill-out room and into the field we go...

Joe Muggs has lived and breathed 'electronic music culture' for many, many years... like a lot of us probably for more than he'd care to imagine.  From journalist and observer to active participant and curator, beyond his celebrated writing career spanning publications like The Wire, FACT, The Guardian, and his co-authorship of  Bass, Mids, Tops: An Oral History of Soundsystem Culture. Muggs has built many bridges across the worlds of the electronic and handily, for us, ambient.

Experimental, ambient, and leftfield sounds to the fore, get horizontal. Something's feeling quite full circle here.

So it is with some excitement that Joe agreed to don his ambient trousers again and step up for part 4 of the Seeds mix. "Music to Smell the Jasmine Whilst Watching for Bats in the Twilight" encapsulates what is often a poetic approach to ambient curation - clearly less about the dancefloor and more about creating an experience that enhances the environment around you.

Da var det klart for den 24.utgaven av Insomnia Festival, og vi har ingen andre enn programsjefen Niels Nielsen til å ta oss gjennom alt som skal skje denne uken. Gjennom radioprogrammet blir vi kjent med artistene som med sine heavy dubs, frie rytmer, og støyete improvisasjoner vil overdøve byen vår denne uken. I tillegg forteller Niels om seminaret Insomnia Insights hvor det vil være filmvisning, forelesninger, performance, i tillegg til et aldri så lite bidrag fra oss i SASUSU Radio!

The 24th edition of Insomnia Festival is about to kick off, and we have none other than program director Niels Nielsen to guide us through everything that's happening this week. Through the radio program, we get to know the artists who, with their heavy dubs, free rhythms, and noisy improvisations, will deafen our city this week. In addition, Niels talks about the Insomnia Insights seminar, which will feature film screenings, lectures, performance, and a small contribution from SASUSU Radio!

S.L.Y.C. - Use Your Illocution (Center Of The Universe)

Center Of The Universe aka Dj Sissyfus is a Norwegian electronic music producer who recently turned his output into a mixture of unique ethno disco & warm synthpop. Live, he presents us with enchanting lyrics, catchy melodies, pinches of acid and clarinette playing. He has been releasing close to 15 albums, performing in numerous live bands and has been running his own label Metronomicon Audio since 2000. 

Center of the Universe has been active in the Norwegian underground music scene since 1998 and has in addition to participating in several other projects, found the time to release a whole host of solo albums, including a trilogy where the theme was space and time. It is difficult to give a clear definition of the band’s musical impression, as this tends to change from release to release, but it would not be wrong to say that melody is always at the center. What apparently may begin as a pop song entice you into a world where nothing is as it seems and musical expectations are seldom met. For the Center of the Universe no surna is too high and no bass too deep. He has always walked off the beaten path next to the road less travelled and keeps trudging on in a landscape where the sun shines, vulcanoes erupt and it’s raining guitars, sitars and just plain’ol tars.
