Other Function Modules and a Sequencencer was used.  2 tracks (L&R) was recorded straight into an H6 recorder.  Mastering was accomplished on a computer.  Reverb was also added on the computer.

Something To Hold On To

Then She Reaches for the Gun was formed in 2021 by Mat Ward. At its essence is sound collage, experimentation and the desire to merge and defy genres. Ward invites musicians, sound artists, poets and anyone interested to send him files to be used, abused and showcased ‘as suggested by the work’. They are not always musical but field recordings, spoken word, engine noises and drunken rants. Animals participate a lot too! The raw material is arranged one phrase asks for the next in an alchemical and intuitive process that will most often feature dozens of tracks weaving in and out of each other, colliding, harmonising, arguing and laughing along the way.

Both the aesthetic and the compositional methods use what Frank Zappa called Xenochrony - the mixing together of separately recorded and rhythmically opposing musical phrases to create polyrhythmic and polytempi compositions.The work also features fragmented story telling with the human voice (in many languages) appearing unannounced throughout the tracks offering up snippets of thoughts, conversations, jokes and existential angst. The absurdity of humanities desperate claim to have any real understanding of its place in the universe is revealed through the recorded follies and genuine emotions of the participants in these works. The project is a celebration of experimentation, chance, diversity and community. It pays homage to all musical tastes and genres whilst maintaining a sense of humour and irreverence that is needed to stay sane in the climate of early 21st Century contemporary culture.

Bachground:  I do not use AI for composing music.   I like and write in many styles of music.  I  play piano, synth, guitar, bass, bodhran and I sing from time to time.  Went to the United Stated to learn jazz piano and was recommended to study Contemporary Classical Music. So I did that for a few years.

Apart from not using AI for composing music.  I do not use loops such as Apple Loops.  I will create my own loops if I want to use the technique in EDM.  As far as sampling is concerned, I make my own most of the time but have and will use a few supplied as sounds included in instruments by the manufacturers for use by the owners of the instruments.  I do realize that DAWs may include Ai technology for mixing and mastering.  So I cannot say that I am completely free from Ai usage at the moment but am gradually shifting things out of the box. I like to feel my own mind flowing freely in my music without plastic manipulation.  

I am currently moving out many of my activities to various other kinds of platforms available for musicians.  Now I am concentrating on writing a few hundred tracks.  On Sound Cloud I have met very interesting and nice musicians and that was excellent experience.
