This is the first official remix of “Tokyo Girl” that has ever been done.  The original version of this song was included on Ace of Base’s third album, released in 1998.  It was a radio single in France, but simply an album track everywhere else.  Another Ace of Base song from that period, “Everytime It Rains” was brilliantly remixed by Brian Rawling and Mark Taylor (Metro).  At the time, Metro were huge, having produced Cher’s “Believe” just prior.  I thought to myself, what if Metro had done a remix of “Tokyo Girl” as well?

Jonas Berggren (one of the founding members of Ace of Base as well as their main songwriter and producer) liked the mix, and had some creative ideas to add.  He suggested that I use some vocals from the original demo version of “Tokyo Girl”, called “End Of This World”.  There were no saved vocals to be found, so I called upon a talented friend, Kutay Kazbek, to filter the vocals from the demo.  These vocals can be heard in the intro and at the end of the remix.

This remix is released exclusively as part of the Ace of Base box set called, “Beautiful Life: The Singles”.

I listened to the Metro Extended mix, which btw was release in 2023, to date, it's been 23 years since it was made. I thought to give it a second  chance, in Trance lol. Hope you enjoy it!
