Merca Bae Presents: Down Theory, the second instalment in the label’s artist-led curation series, arriving 13th November. Curated by Merca Bae, the compilation delves into the landscape of Downtempo Bass music, intertwining between Dancehall, Tarraxo, Breaks, and Reggaeton.

Through this release, Merca Bae spotlights the wide scope of Downtempo music and its continued presence across global underground scenes. Over the past few years, club music has trended toward higher BPMs and relentless, fast-paced energy, but Down Theory offers a space to explore slower, weightier & sexier rhythms as a way to embrace slower, bass-driven music in a club environment.

The project features contributions from Chá Di Lirian, Grindalf, and Entrañas, alongside established producers styn and Faraonika, and introduces Unayo and Tempo Fino, who debut their first productions under new aliases.

Down Theory offers a cohesive yet wide-ranging snapshot of contemporary low-end experimentation.

"We roll into 2020 with Dubstep on our minds as one of our faves, Dystinkt, finally lands on the label with his debut EP entitled 'Tripletz'. Dystinkt was the first person we met when we started up as a night in Leeds way back in 2013, and a beautiful friendship blossomed. In fact, it was Dystinkt who was responsible for reigniting bossman Tik's love for Dubstep, so it seems fitting that he takes the first EP in a genre we will be putting a lot into this year.

Dystinkt doesn't hold back here either, cutting dark synths tunes that are reminiscent of 2009. He has an ear for a tune, and an oscilaltion or two, which can be heard across all three original tracks alongside the crisp drum work and well thought out melodies."
