wonky bubbles... can I please get an ID on this one?

In July 2010, I got an invitation to play at a small but neat festival named Folk Ibiza. It was my first visit to the island. I got to spin at a bunch of different locations, such as the Hostal Boutique Salinas, Sunset Ashram, and on the terrace at Space. I returned in September of the following year to play a set on Andy Wilson's show on Ibiza Sonica and a second time at the Hostal. I have not been back to Ibiza since. I recently came across this picture (taken at Cala Compte next to Sunset Ashram), which inspired me to make this mix. I tried to sonically capture the vibe that I felt back then. It includes some bona fide classics such as Ashra "Oasis“, Santana "Aqua Marine," and Jah Wobble & Holger Czukay "Hold On To Your Dreams," as well as tunes by Smith & Mudd, Begin, Quiet Village and more. A Magnificent Time [Mix/July 2024]

Joe Morris seemed to come out of nowhere until I realized he was in front of me all along, as part of the Clandestino crew who put out a handful of nu-balearic joints on wax that I was checking in the late teens and on 12” singles for quirky & adventuresome labels like Pleasure Unit, Is It Balearic? & Wonder Stories. When his 2019 full-length album Exotic Language launched Joe’s Shades Of Sound label and a collab with local homie Cole Odin, I was all-in! SOS has been firing on all cylinders recently, and when Joe reached out we realized he’d be perfect for the first international guest on the mix series since the relaunch. 

A lovely journey through languid afternoons on a hot beach, nostalgic throwbacks to the good old days, obscure 80s blue-eyed funk, AOR groovers, foreign versions of beloved heaters, heady ambience, some Spanish guitar (natch!) and a heap of Balearic feelings are what this mix is all about. Perfect vibes for the final lights of Summer! Thanks Joe for the mix and we hope you enjoy.

Idle Cellars is back with another chiller killer for your Autumn revelry! This time around we’ve got another stellar mix from West Coast pioneer, Bay Area Rave legend & Cali breakbeat progenitor DJ SPUN! Responsible for breaking breaks in SF in the early 90s, punk rock bandleader in the early 80s, disco mastermind in the early 00’s - the man has been there, done that, whether via his label Rong Music, curating events at PS1 in NYC with the cream of club culture, humbly embodying some of the greatest DJ skills in the world, let alone the US (and let alone California!). 

His resume is far too long to list here, but he’s given us this fantastic mix for horizontal grooving that he’s titled “Idle Dub…Idle Chug”. Spun commented: “For fall and winter I usually switch to red wine…So this mix marked the start of the season and is a testament to the effect of a bottle of red!” Say no more squire! 

As usual, we’re in love with this journey through music, a gentle nudge from wonderful ambience through some late-night dubby funk on a slo-mo tip, keeping things musical and in outerspace!

We're closing out 2024 with a selector that perhaps needs no further introduction, but in case you've been living under a rock for the past 15 years, we are extremely excited to present the next Idle Cellars mix by the one and only EDDIE C! Mr. C (NOT THAT ONE) is, in our esteemed opinion, one of the best DJ's in the entire world and we're crazy stoked to have him as the next IC mix for your listening pleasure. Canada-born & Berlin-bred, Eddie has been gallivanting all over the globe as a musical expert in a world of tourists, ready to spread good vibes and his sparkling personality (plus that Canadian politeness we always hear about) to the four corners of the planet. 

His resume is, frankly, ridiculous. As a producer and "editor", Eddie is responsible for countless fantastic releases across disco edit labels like his own RED MOTORBIKE, COMMON EDIT, 7 INCHES OF LOVE, KOLOUR LTD, SLEAZY BEATS, LUMBERJACKS IN HELL and many, many more, plus he's been fully embraced by the Japanese contingent with many releases on MULE sublabel ENDLESS FLIGHT as well as CRUE-L & SOUNDOFSPEED. The man's discography as a producer is as wide as it is deep and he continues to be extremely active with new remixes or originals coming out regularly.

DJ-wise our boy has the chops to be dropped into any situation and rock the party, whether that's at Cafe Del Mar, Panoramabar, the Sunset Campout or dodgy mafia-run nightclubs in deepest Eastern Europe. To put it succinctly, he is...THE MAN. 

We think Eddie C is a perfect closer to our year. Thanks for coming along with us on these journeys, and we hope you can give us a subscribe and stay tuned - we have some seriously cool things happening for 2025 so don't sleep, and have a wonderful holiday season and New Year. A chance introduction between vocalist Anna Ling and producer Lucky Sun (Tom Lown), resulted in 2 luscious remixes of her song Butterfly.

Anna Ling, a singer-songwriter, choir leader and teacher based in Devon had an interest in working with different producers to give a new perspective on her already wonderful, folky original self released songs.

The first of the 2 remixes has a downtempo groove, featuring Tom’s live drums with subtle synths and pads creating a bed for the double bass and strings from the original. Anna’s unique, almost otherworldly voice carries the song up into the clouds. Live instrumentation and electronic elements weave together to create goosebumps.

The 2nd remix ‘Lucky Sun Midnight Dub Mix’ is more uptempo with an uplifting, warm deep house feel. Anna’s vocals are more minimal and lay deeper in the mix, instead of upfront, creating a ‘dub’ type version.
