ALTAR OF GOLD

When we crossed that river
we were desperatos for sure.
We had our six-shooting guns 
and our jingle-jangle spurs.

There weren’t one among us
that hadn’t done time.
There weren’t one among us
without gold on his mind.

We rode into Guatalupe
without a sound
to the church of San Pedro
in the centre of town.

If I told you our plan
your blood would run cold,
the altar of the church
is made of solid gold.

A procession with flowers
at high noon,
a wedding procession,
a bride and a groom.

With them angels watching
from high above,
us desperatos laughed
in the face of love.

Like a herd of of long-horns
we made our stampede,
driven by madness
and blinded by greed.

When the bells tolled
I knew I was done,
the Padre with the cross
he pulled out a gun.

The altar shone
in the sacred dark,
a shot rang out
and echoed through my heart.

Instead of a wedding,
a funeral they had.
Things had gone 
from good to bad.

In the square, the Padre blessed
this desperato’s dance of death.
As I marched where ya can’t come back
the sky went dark and the sun went black.

I sing this song,
from the grave
a warning from beyond, 
your soul to save.

When we crossed that river
heading back from town
those desperatos left me 
lying on the ground.

Deep Sea is Deep Sky

深海 Deep Sea - High in the Cave

This track revisits an older piece that I posted  few years ago.  It is based on a midi recording of me trying to play the piano, but was heavily edited to cover up all the mistakes I tend to make.  I was never fully happy with the piece, even after the editing as the original sound quality, although full, perhaps had too much reverb that tended to lose some of the details.  

I have both edited the track at an individual note level as well as increasing the tempo in quite a few sections.  I have also experimented with a way of trying to give a greater spatial sense to the sound,  including the thought that the listener is also the player, or sitting right behind them.  

Any comments on the music itself or the sound production would be appreciated as always,  And as always, thank you for listening.

When I write music, I try to go on a journey to feel emotions, whatever they may be.  To me, music is a celebration of life; for all the pain and suffering we may endure, it is a gift to be alive.
