The 24th release of Sengiley has been in preparation and languishing for a long time, like aged dry wine in a French castle cellar, a French bouquet of young talents from Awlies & Véronique Samsung on their original Spot The Difference EP!

This experimental release is a dynamic and hypnotic journey where the languid and experimental sound of Awlies replaces the expressive and driving versions of the duo Véronique Samsung. Individually, Véronique Samsung is a living duo, born after a decade of collaboration between Clement Cosse and Tom Nomine, in 2019 in Nantes (France). The project has recently been marked by several great experimental releases and their virtuoso live show with drum machines, synthesizers and guitar, which showed their professionalism, seriousness of intentions and noticeable recognition.

Awlies, hidden in his Parisian studio in the middle of his tower of analog instruments, between a mpc and a cassette recorder, wants to produce a music without rules. A bit nostalgic, he naively seeks to find the electronic music of yesteryear based on contemporary melodic structures.

His part on the EP remains a plan without a projected artistic direction, like a bottle in the sea. Here, Awlies wanted to try deep-house, he tried.

This new release from HELP presents music from various HELP-related artists. Another release from the Århus-imprint that doesn’t directly state “club-proof”, but still, this one wouldn’t mind having a spin or two by your local dance-pusher. The opening track is by Central; a fresh house tune with both melodies and good-vibes - maybe the closest this young man has come to making an anthem. Next up is the 4 piece group Maizena with a ambiguous rhythmical ambient-house jam from the area of Denmark where it rains the least. On the B-side you’ll find a raw and to the point recording of DJ Sports and C.K joining PH1 in his throwback techno-studio in the suburbs of Århus. Next up is the long awaited debut from Manmade Deejay, who has been cooking a floating rhythm jam for this 5 course meal of modern danish cuisine. Last but not least Amsterdam-based KAAP joined Central on a fine day at Rubber Studios to create this dreamy and galloping ride.  All in all this genuine piece of wax if filled with local devotion and love from the HELP-crew. After releasing on Hot Haus rec(ords) and Pitch Down, Rumore returns home to Discomaths with a collection of tropical beats and healing atmospheres. Cuts that are as deep and thought out, as they are danceable.

On the A- side “Tucano” is shaking its exotic feathers, surrounded by swirling arpegios and the distant whistles of the jungle. It takes you on a voyage to the deeps of the rain forest, as it alternates between the clarity of its pre-Columbian flutes and the magical mist lifted by its leads.

On the more introspective B- side, we submerge ourselves into “Boreal”, experiencing what would dusk be like in a perfect world. Emotional catharsis a waits as the intricate breaks float above the strings and pads that seem to emerge from the bottom of the ocean, and the chemical arpeggios colours the water around them.

The release closes with “La Fonte”, a pleasurable well that bubbles of new age. The humid guitars and warm vapours pass over us in a paused moment of hypnotic massage.

PREMIERE: Rumore - Boreale [Discomaths]

Automatic Tasty (Jonny Dillon) has been away from Central Processing Unit for five years now, releasing on labels such as AC Records and Furthur Electronix in the intervening time. However, new EP The Future Is Not What It Used To Be shows that the chemistry between label and artist is still in good nick by offering up four tracks of contemplative electro-boogie.

While the preceding CPU/Automatic Tasty drop may be 2015’s The Life Parochial, The Future Is Not What It Used To Be actually has more in common with Sentimentalist’s Choice, Automatic Tasty’s CPU debut which came out back in 2013. This is not due to a huge stylistic shift - all three records bring together classic electro, techno and boogie sounds to create charming and melodious tracks - but more to do with the tone of the record. You see, while The Life Parochial was a squelchy machine-funk delight, The Future Is Not What It Used To Be is a more pensive affair befitting its title.

This isn’t to say that The Future Is Not What It Used To Be is a muted EP. Far from it - this record contains some of the most gorgeous electro joints you’ll hear all year. The vibe is established on its eponymous opening jam, a vocoder-laced production pitched somewhere between the more ruminative tunes on Posthuman’s 2018 LP Mutant City Acid and contemporary boogie acts such as Funkineven/Steven Julien and Galaxians. The track is made by the beautiful, bittersweet timbre of its synths, and these are maintained on following number ’Romance In The Old Country’. Given the offbeat skip in its groove and sunset-glow ruefulness of the keys, ’Romance In The Old Country’ is a cut which invokes the instrumentals of Jessy Lanza LPs - and even (whisper it) a little Sade.

The Future Is Not What It Used To Be is an EP of evocative track titles, but there may be none more accurate than first B-side ‘Rising Sun’. Here, Automatic Tasty tweaks the wistfulness of the A-side cuts into something more uplifting. While a thoughtful quality remains in ‘Rising Sun’s soft synths and skittering 808s, the track is driven by the exuberant energy of the ‘Woo! Yeah!’ drum break to become the sort of tune you drop as dawn begins to break over the rave. ‘Rising Sun’s afterglow falls over the closing track ‘Adventures In The World Of Becoming’, a steady IDM-electro pulse that channels the spirit of Aphex Twin’s seminal Selected Ambient Works 85-92.

‘The future is not what it used to be - no past, no memory’. With this robo-voiced intonation, Automatic Tasty returns to Sheffield’s Central Processing Unit with four moving, poignant machine-funk tracks.

Freund der Familie invite Christopher Rau, Pole, Roger Gerressen and Van Bonn to remixes cuts from their 2018 ‘Panorama’ EP this February.

Leipzig, Germany’s Freund der Familie, the producer and label name, has long been respected in the world of raw, underground house and techno. The past decade has seen the founders Klaus Rakete & Mirko Hunger unveil a number of releases under the alias, exploring a wide range of styles influenced by dub, leftfield electronica and much more. Here the label revisits the ‘Panorama’ EP from a few years back, welcoming remixes from some esteemed artists in the industry.

Christopher Rau returns on remix duties following his take on Symbian for FDF005 and also FDFALFA01, this time round Rau delivers a hazy take on ‘PRS’ driven by raw analogue drums, woozy synths and winding subs.
