Suicidio is a South American speed post-punk project currently based in Spain. It’s a duo and it
will be like that, they wont’ stop. This live is a vigorous, vibrant hallucinatory ride through the sonic
spectrum of electro and post-punk, with a charming band approach. A punchy distinctive sound
is the crucial asset of the duo, which combines the finest sides of both members.

The White Dove Pt.1 [FE062] - Clips

Revel in Alchemulator’s fantasy world of larping druids, brought to life with the infamous Yamaha PSS480 keyboard. The history of the Yamaha PSS FM range keyboards of the late 1980’s is fascinating and niche: a cheap consumer semi-toy home keyboard with spartan synthesizer functions based around a specially designed FM sound chip.

The chip, which is a low cost and cut down version of FM synthesis found in the mighty Yamaha DX7 - the digital synthesizer that defined pop music in the 1980’ - brings forth a mere sketch of its distant DX7 cousin. Feeble attempts to emulate the mighty DX7’s electric piano or staccato bass sounds on one of these keyboards are futile. Instead, a plethora of unique lo-fi tones resound. Unexpected artifacts are plentiful: cracks and hisses are present, giving the sounds a strange otherworldly and organic undercurrent, which are to be heard on the album.

This chip found its way in a number of 1990’s computer sound cards, scoring the music of many RPG adventure game worlds, exposing an entire generation of geeks and cyberpunks to its digital dusty yet crystalline warm spectrum of sounds. The instant association with fantasy adventures makes it ideal for old school dungeon synth composing. Escape this savage life and enter Alchemulator’s great gardens of Thalamere, located Southwest of Fairsnake Hamlet.

L/F/D/M, aka Richard Smith, makes his debut on Osàre, exploring the more delicate side of his intoxicatingly abrasive sound. Gold Like Glass is razor-sharp and elemental, with each track cast from long passages of synth dissected into heavy edits. According to Smith, this composition process is akin to printmaking, where the ink on a series of images deviates from the original stencil, becoming looser, softer and increasingly ghostly. ‘After Whitney’ is haunted by peak time rave energy; the drums are disembowelled, leaving a rolling climatic melody, utterly euphoric and disorientating. The track is followed by ‘Blood Byze Leech,’ a thunderously jagged affair, and ‘Delicate Push’ that fizzles like an electrified spinning-top, its frozen melodies accompanied by a lolloping beat. Turning over to the B-side, ‘Plute’ winds its way into dark psychedelia while ‘m-two nine’ descends into the realm of mutant deaccelerated bleep techno. Combing the ciphers of hardcore, its cruxes and suspense, with the serrated edge of minimal synth EBM, Gold Like Glass presents an
alchemical fusion of deeply danceable and cerebral noise.

Music producer, DJ, technician, and overall renaissance LDY, Alyssa Barrera Auvinen’s artist name was born from her love of all things synth. An early liking to music brought her to the dancefloors of Mexico, where she began DJing as an adolescent before going on to study music and sound engineering in New York City. In her music production, Alyssa plays with different instruments and unexpected vocal styles to bring her dark fantasies to life. She recently contributed a track to the new Prague-based label LTE (and the new home for our mix series) with the wind-tunnel, electro-infused ‘Suave Duro’. She spoke with Jonas about racial bias in the media, DJing dangerous parties as a teenager in Mexico, sound therapy, the music scene in Vienna, and exploring the worlds of codes, electronics, frequencies, and oscillators.

Heating up the series this week is Myn. The Marseille-based Parisian runs the esteemed label Public Systems Recording which boasts releases by Beau Wanzer, R Gamble, Kluentah, and others. As a producer, he shares aliases such as Fade Accompli with R Gamble on Veyl, MYNTHA with Kluentah on his own imprint, as well as having previous releases on Pinkman, Ransom Notes, DJ Loser's Apatyhy label, and others either solo or as part of a duo. His style is truly genre-defying, tying together all corners of the electronic soundscape as he broadcasts this on his long-standing Rinse France show. He's also spread his gospel in renowned clubs like Berghain, Concrete, Rex Club and others. His banging selection builds up with Memphis and dubstep tinted records which grows in ferocity. Lock in!

Galactic Funk Podcast 086 - Myn

Bochum Welt’s 2019 LP ‘Seafire’ and its accompanying remix album are two of the Central Processing Unit label’s most beloved releases. However, links between the two parties run far deeper than just those records.

You see, the tracks that Gianluigi Di Costanzo cut as Bochum Welt in the 1990s and 2000s are in the very DNA of the celebrated Sheffield imprint. Bochum Welt’s drops on labels like Rephlex made for some of the most celebrated electronic music releases of the era and went on to influence producers the world over - including many of those who have turned up on CPU since it launched in 2012.

As such, it makes sense that two of the most crucial EPs from Bochum Welt’s first wave are now being given new life by CPU. ‘Desktop Robotics’ and ‘Feelings On A Screen’ initially emerged in 1997 via Aphex Twin’s Rephlex imprint. Now, Di Costanzo has curated this special CPU release to celebrate both of those EPs making it to 25. This is a reissue with a twist, though. While ‘Desktop Robotics / Feelings On A Screen’ features many crucial cuts from the original pressings, the record also serves up other gems gathered from Bochum Welt’s original master tapes - all of which have never previously been released on vinyl.

The ‘Desktop Robotics’ cuts which make for the record’s first half are dreamy, impressionistic things. On this quartet, Bochum Welt plays painterly synth work off of idiosyncratic drum programming to illuminating effect. The opening title-track, for instance, blooms from a clattering, distorted beat into an icily beguiling electronic soundscape, a vibe which carries through to following number ‘HMT (202 Mix)’.

Things become more weightless on ‘Leafs Brought By The Wind’, a potent vignette where you can almost see the leaves falling amidst its reverb-drenched haze. We then get ethereal ‘Marylebone (Demo Version)’. Anyone who’s heard the iteration of ‘Marylebone’ which appeared on Bochum Welt’s 2017 LP ‘April’ will be pleasantly surprised by this alternate mix. Here the track pulls away from pretty post-minimalist piano composition to widescreen ambience - it’s so warm and intimate that it feels like peeking behind a curtain to observe an artist at work.

Things ramp up a notch with the tracks taken from in and around ‘Feelings On A Screen’. The title cut kicks off the record’s second half in limber fashion, its nimble percussion programming dancing around a pulsing bassline. Like A Tim’s mix of ‘Greenwich’ is still as much of a party-starter as it was on the original ‘Feelings On A Screen’ release, with the Djax-Up-Beats veteran setting buoyant rhythm work against a playful, eccentric lead-line. 

Between these tunes we are treated to one of the gems of the Bochum Welt discography. In 2007, Di Costanzo split an EP with Heinrich Mueller, an artist best known as Drexciya’s Gerald Donald. That record featured Mueller’s ‘Z Version’ of Bochum Welt’s ‘Saint’, and the track’s appearance here, with machine gun bass burbling alongside strange textures, joins the dots between Di Constanzo’s style and the pulsating machine-funk that Donald helped popularise. Things close out with ‘North’, a frostily beautiful ambience which makes for a fitting bookend to this album when taken alongside ‘Desktop Robotics’.

This 25th anniversary re-release of Bochum Welt’s ‘Desktop Robotics’ and ‘Feelings On A Screen’ EPs reminds us that, while time may have passed, the appeal of Bochum Welt’s electronic music remains as strong as ever.

Underground hero Bill Converse returns to Dark Entries with Take Parts, perhaps his most muscular and floor-focused work to date. Converse has honed his analog craft since the early days of the Midwest rave scene, absorbing lessons from luminaries like Claude Young and Traxx. His skill as a producer has been established with releases on labels such as Dark Entries, Fit Sound, and Obsolete Futures, and his prowess as a DJ has been witnessed on floors the world over. 
On Take Parts, Converse peels away the layers of acidic gauze that have characterized much of his work, revealing his sharp grasp of dancefloor dynamics and DJ functionality. While the 808’s, 909’s, and 303’s are on full display, Converse does not indulge in retro-fetishism; he channels the future forward impulse of the originary rave ethos. Tracks like “Stroke” and “What You Have” pit seasick chords and analog squelch atop funky but unsettling loops. The flurry of 808 snares on “Measurement (Of What?)” nods towards both footwork and jungle, but feels ultimately planted in a world of Converse’s own. With the acid-electro masterpiece “Take Apart”, Converse implores us to both join him in this new world and reconfigure the one we’re living in now. The 6-tracks on Take Parts present a new focus for Converse, and will excite DJ’s and thrill dancers

Anna Vs June is the alias of Anna Papaioannou  - a contemporary music composer from Greece. She captures the perfect balance between electronic and traditional sounds, representing her western and eastern musical influences. Having travelled extensively in rural areas around Greece, she has gathered diverse singing practices from a wide range of areas stretching from the island of Crete to the North East edges of Epirus. 

In the third release of Yalançı presented by Anna Vs June, Anna comes into the picture to share her musical interpretation of growing up in a country that is constantly experiencing an identity crisis. Encompassing her research, all tracks on the record are based on traditional music from different parts of Greece, featuring the voices of Anna herself, in addition to guest performances by Stephanos Theodoropoulos from Nea Kios, Nikos Mais-Zogos from Lefkada and Alexis Voutouris with a violin performance. The continuous mix represents 5 songs pressed on heavy duty transparent vinyl and housed in a full printed sleeve with a photograph taken in the South of Azerbaijan by the label founder Ayaz.
