This mix contains a lot of the music I have been working on in the past months and I wanted to share it with you. I am inspired by all genres and deeply in love with music in its entirety more than a particular manifestation of it. I hope you can hear that in this mix, enjoy!

Over the past five years, Brighton-based producer Lorca has racked up a smart, unique, and club-ready discography with an air of compositional awareness which set him apart from his many UK counterparts. Fucking the Pain Away and singing about Frank Sinatra being dead.  I was a Bad Babysitter who discovered electro thanks to DJ Hell in Berlin (who had me DJ his Love Parade party circa 2001.) I was a hip hop kid who brought vinyl records in a suitcase to the party and trainwrecked my way through my set- but then and there my DJ career was born. I watched the freaks come out and dance to anything and everything - punk, hip hop, dance, it was all one big glittery melting pot.  Alexander Technique and I became "Djs are Not Rockstars" and we toured the world- from Russia to Tenerife to Brooklyn- on 4 turntables mashing up anything we could get our hands on. Our bootleg mix CD flew off the shelves of Rough Trade in London and our mixes (VItalic Vs. My Neck my Back) were pressed to vinyl and on every DJ's playlist. Justice were our friends and life was 1,2,3,4 Perfect!! Here is an homage just for you.

Schlachthofbronx continue their 2020 single series with a new Soca influenced tune called HEAD BAD. With RG. Skinny from Saint Lucia as a feature guest, the Munich duo combines their love for Caribbean music and all its energy, ruffness & dynamic with their expertise in forging all kinds of synergies and hybrids between bass heavy club music styles. And well, the result beams you straight to their happy place: Behind a soundsystem truck at carnival, speakers blasting, rum in hand.

As long time fans and followers of Soca music, especially the distinct strain emerging from the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia and all its special sound & energy, you might have already heard Jakob and Benedikt absolutely rinse these kind of tunes in their sweat-inducing sets between Munich and Mumbai in the last years. So naturally, the guys reached out and connected with a couple of key vocalists from the island and started to work on some collaborations – and HEAD BAD is the first to surface, perfectly encapsulating both the raw and instant party starting Soca vibes as well as a club-ready production with a 130 bpm bassline to vibrate the whole body good.

With RG. Skinny on the mic, they enlisted one of the freshest voices of Saint Lucia: Together with his Reckless Gang, he and his friends made a name for themselves in the islands capital city Castries and all over the Caribbean over the last year, with hit tunes and a sound ranging from straight up Soca over Trap Kreole to the booming Dennery Segment style. The latter - a distinct hybrid of Angolan Kuduro, Kreole lyrics and pure Soca energy - is one of the most fascinating and much needed good vibes-inducing new sounds to emerge on an international level - and RG. Skinny is a key voice to all of this.

And yes, this all connects perfectly with the Schlachthofbronx universe of club hybrids - check their seminal Boiler Room for example, where they close the whole madness out with playing a RG. Skinny & Reckless Gang crew cut called GANG on a huge soundsystem they also use for their earthshaking Blurred Vision nites. But yes, longtime Schlachthofbronx followers will also remember them honouring their Soca influences on their 2011 WAVE AND WINE EP on renowned label Mixpak.

Being informed by countless days spent behind the Soca trucks at carnivals round the world, this new Schlachthofbronx single HEAD BAD is set for big things. Fellow carnival nerd Toddla T for example already played it on his BBC Radio 1 Soundsystem show - long before it even got a release date, and recently other key BBC Radio DJs like Jeremiah Asiamah repeatedly pushed the song as well.
