After 5 standout releases, including debuts from many fresh faces to the left-of-field underground scene, Plasma Sources presents its inaugural compilation: Multi-Source. It brings together the current label family and a slew of other artists operating on the cutting- edge of dance floor electronics for a multi-genre, sound design heavy, wild ride. In turn, the label takes aim at establishing itself as one of the most exciting imprints in the experimental club scene.
From the 90BPM cinematic, Lorn-esque sludge of newcomer Guide’s ‘Gemological’ to the crisp staccato transients and negative space of Ziyiz’s ‘Plastic Sentiments’, each track adheres to one of the guiding principles that the label has employed so effectively to curate it’s platform, irrespective of tempo: a love for sci-fi aesthetics and a desire to transpose these into sonic equivalents.

Plasma Sources has always prided itself on delicately balancing dark and light, release to release. On Multi-Source, this broad spectrum is in full vision. Reinartz offers up dubbed- out, IDM-esque desolation on ‘Action Bias’, whilst Stolen Velour’s ‘Suigetsu’ brings a bright playfulness - high-pitched vocal cuts marry pulsating, organic beats which sound like if Untold’s Hemlock output got a 2024 facelift. Some tracks, like Prior Self’s brooding yet fidgety ‘Turn Out’ and Klahrk & Atrice’s flange-fuelled ‘You’ve Changed’ occupy the centre of this continuum with their takes on high-tempo techno-influenced mutations.

The full label family comes back to join in on the fun. HYPNA and NIQH team up on a collaboration which perfectly unites their sounds under a 4-bar bass-heavy roller laden with noise. NIQH offers up their own track, exploring crystalline club structures on ‘Pressure’. unearth’s cinematic, wasteland-ridden sound is in clear focus on ‘Safe Tread’ and Beton Brut’s signature grime-concrète comes through loud and clear on ‘WWW’.

Cortical offer up ‘Hammer’, a continuation of their relentless avant-techno manifesto established by their debut, whilst J-Shadow rounds things off with a space-age jungle- exploration on ‘X-38'.
The juxtaposition of dark and light. The delicate balancing of experimentalism and dance floor sensibilities. The interweaving of sci-fi and biologically-infused sound design. These are the key aesthetics with which Plasma Sources has approached its output ever since release no.1.
Multi-Source acts as a confirmation of this manifesto as it looks forward to 2025 and its future as a key player in the experimental club scene.

Abadir is one of the most fascinating producers (also a DJ and music journalist) from the contemporary experimental club music world. He is always changing and growing as an artist. He is interested in collaboration and frequently works together with different artists across the world. Whether it's with Nahash, Ehua, Lyra Valenza, or Slikback. From ambient to bass music to mashups and hybrids with rich Arabic rhythms.

"Cultural surroundings could mean rhythmic patterns that exist in the Arab region. I really can’t count the number of rhythmic patterns that we have. I only know a few, like 15 different rhythmic patterns, and I think there are hundreds. So, I’m still discovering, learning, and listening a lot," told Abadir to the Danish blog Passiveaggressive.

"I’m revisiting my early music influences in this special mix. Every artist/band in this mix has been a great source of inspiration to me in terms of production, sound design, mood and how to build a song structure. For the last ten years, I still find a lot of their traces in my music, consciously or subconsciously. I grew up with this music —among others— in the 90’s and 00’s, introduced to these artists through MTV, VH1, magazines like Q, Select and Mixmag, as well as MTV’s late-night programs Alternative Nation and Chill Out Zone. This mix brings back good memories of collecting music on CDs, Cassettes, VHS tapes and later on ripping music on CDs as music piracy took off with Napster, iMesh, Limewire and torrents."

MC Yallah / @user-724951916 on Hibotep: A walking, breathing example of the diversity of Kampala's arts and cultural scene, Hibo Elmi is, amongst other things, a filmmaker, fashion designer and installation artist. A self-described cultural nomad, her one rule is that rules are there for breaking. A philosophy that extends to her DJ sets where trap, hip hop, house are combined with taraab, gnawa and other Arabic influences to collide into a vibrant contemporary sonic collage.

Ashley Woodward on Hibotep: I’ve been lucky enough to see Hibotep play rooftops, festivals, bars, clubs, backyards - and it’s always a sonic adventure. One night in Kampala before a gig, I was hanging at Hibo’s whilst she prepared for the upcoming set. You could hear the excitement building from within as Hibo filled her bag with a collection of music ‘totally new and different’ to what she had performed recently. I could probably have been forgiven for wondering why there was a need for change when those recent gigs had gone so well, but that’s not Hibo’s style. A passion for underground artists, a champion of sounds from diverse communities, a commitment to freedom of self expression and to challenge oneself creatively is what I would consider authentically Hibotep. And so it was - another amazing journey of moods, music and rhythms had the club swinging, and for myself a reminder from Hibo to keep an open mind, keep searching and keep listening.

BbyMutha - go! (Ooki vs. Derby Atrice Edit)

In the Ukrainian-speaking album "Dreams of Trees | Сни Дерев", I explore the themes of
the ambiguity of dreams and their origins, nostalgia for pre-war times, and fear of the future.
The metaphorical image of sleeping trees symbolizes a postponed life. I used recordings
from the air made during 2023-2024 to deepen the atmosphere of the tracks and create
a sense of presence. These include sounds from the Carpathian Mountains, children playing
in a Lviv’s fountain, the noise of Kyiv streets, a children's choir, and more.

Each track represents a separate dream with blurred lines between surrealism and reality, where
one does not want to wake up. The layered vocals create a feeling of altered consciousness, and
the mystery of dreams brings both a sense of calm and anxiety. The entire album has a thoughtful dynamic and dramaturgy, divided into three parts: nostalgia for pre-war times, the realities of today, rebirth and faith in a bright future.

This album is my transformation between 2022 and 2024, a journey where the silence whispers
of ancient fears and unknown secrets, revealed only to those willing to feel them. The covers, like
the music itself, immerse you in this world where everything intertwines, changes, and exists
outside of time, in loud sounds and silence simultaneously.
