Following EPs and 12”s on Wolf + Lamb, W+L Black, Life And Death, Bang The Box and their debut on Visionquest, PillowTalk present their debut LP, ‘Je Ne Sais Quoi’. As much a soundtrack to long nights as it is lazy days, there is something about the record that spans everything you want from the band: sun-splashed jams, peak-time party tunes and low-lit moments of intimacy.

The album has been a work in progress since the boys formed the group in their San Francisco studio and was recorded last year during a month at PDX Studios in Portland, Oregon, which sits overlooking the city and the gorgeous Mount Hood. It was a session that allowed the band to work communally, drawing from various ideas, as well as influences, which include the vast Americana of Bruce Springsteen, the wrought post dubstep of James Blake, the deep soul of Sam Cooke and the incendiary jazz of John Coltrane.

‘We All Have Rhythm’ is an anything-could-happen-tonight tune that you’ll want to be listening to at 11pm on a Friday; ‘Lullaby’ is the perfect dose of deepness for a loved-up 6am dancefloor; the off-kilter R&B ghetto tech of ‘4 Walls’ will fit the vibe at a woozy afterparty; and ‘LA To The Bay’ will rouse you and make you feel good the morning after as the sun comes up. This is music to suit all times, because that’s what PillowTalk is all about.

The broad nature of ‘Je Ne Sais Quoi’ came about because Sammy D (vocals), Michael Tello (producer) and Ryan Williams (multi-instrumentalist) pulled the record together from melodies thought up while on long plane journeys, impromptu jam throw downs in Berlin apartments and musical sketches created during long nights into early morning studio sessions sharing bottles of vodka. For instance, ‘4 Walls’ happened during a late night session, with the band throwing ideas around and with friends DOP and Navid Izadi. “We wanted to do something that wasn't a 122bpm 4/4 kick drum track, challenge ourselves musically and lyrically, so we made the song at 144 beats per minute but still gave it a soul vibe,” says Michael. The song took an hour and a half to write, whipped up in the heat and energy of the moment.

This organic way of working was what brought PillowTalk together in the first place. They formed after the three were mucking around on the baby grand piano in Ryan’s kitchen. A guitar and a Wurlitzer, some off-hand vocals, were thrown into the mix in true Doo-wop style. The EP, ‘The Come Back’, dropped on Life And Death in 2011 with their hit single 'Soft' and things started to roll.

Breakout hit ‘Far From Home’ on the ‘Far From Heaven’ EP in the same year was followed by the cheeky ‘Soul Edits’ 12” for Wolf + Lamb’s W+L Black imprint in 2012 which featured their classic remix of Bobby Hebb's, 'Sunny'. Then in 2013, the single ‘Lullaby’ backed with ’We All Have Rhythm’ dropped, giving a clear indication of how ‘Je Ne Sais Quoi' would sound: warm, lush and dreamy.

Though they’ve only been releasing records since 2011, the three have known each other for years. They met through djing parties and have been neighbors and even roommates. ‘Je Ne Sais Quoi’ sees them stepping into their own as a band, a statement of intent born from the highs and lows of their loves, laughs and heartbreaks thus far.

The Austrian DJ/producer duo Wiener Planquadrat (@wienerplanquadrat) consisting of Michael Weiler and Maximilian Atteneder are the first to feature on Iptamenos Discos’ new single series with ‘Ein Weites Feld’, a powerful single that presents a fusion of sounds from dark disco, electro, acid and house.

Showcasing a wide variety of analogue sounds and synths, the track builds an euphoric and futuristic atmosphere, featuring striking percussion that gives the track a feeling of weight as well as utilising a vocal that blurs the line between human and robot. The song continuously builds up the energy with a flurry of arpeggiators, sweeping pads and acid basslines, giving the listener the sense that they are breaking free from the atmosphere and launching off into space, as if they are floating away in zero gravity.

Wiener Planquadrat has built their sound over a variety of successful releases including their debut hit single ‘Stillstand’ and the follow up EP ‘Dschungel‘, as well as many remixes and collaborations with artists such as Local Suicide, You Man, Kalipo, Dina Summer, Oberst & Buchner & Ali X. In recent times they have been DJing and playing live shows in Berlin, Paris, Thessaloniki, and Vienna as well as focusing on the production of their debut album.

‘Ein Weites Feld’ will release via Iptamenos Discos on digital and streaming platforms on August 8th, 2023 and will feature the original mix, a radio edit and an instrumental mix.

Timothy 'Heretic' Clerkin puts the soup and tweed to one side and goes full Orbital with 'Execute'

Having recently put out music from Bawrut and Ivan Smagghe, Ransom Note Records are back with a new EP from Timothy ‘Heretic’ Clerkin. Home to three dancefloor stormers + one insane remix from Marlon Hoffstadt, the Serenade EP is chock full of breakbeats and gurgling acid lines and twiddly little synth bits.

What do we know about Timothy ‘Heretic’ Clerkin then? Well, we know he’s released on labels including Tusk Wax and Rotters Golf Club, both as Heretic and as one half of Eskimo Twins. We know he was once crowned the fastest barman in West Yorkshire. And we also know two of his great passions in life are soup and tweed. Even in the summer heat.

The latest track from the EP to see the light of day is ‘Execute’, a demolition tool that harks back to the halcyon days of peak Orbital. It’s already been rinsed by the likes of Andrew Weatherall, who closed Panorama Bar with it last month and reportedly tore the roof off.

“I was playing around in the studio with a Fender Rhodes one day”, Timothy explains of the track’s genesis, “putting it through various amps and filters, then resampling it - that's how I came up with the main rave stab riff. As that part is played by hand and quite human, I wanted the rest of the instrumentation to be very mechanical and programmed, which is where the title comes from.”

The pampa, filled with enigmatic lines and geoglyphs known as Nazca, gives name to this record label.

Nazca Records was created to collect the music that Viracochas (beings of other worlds), shared with the ancient Nazca people, known for their love for music, dance and nature. 

These recordings represent the music that was once played in another time and that will be played again in the future…They are the memories of the future.

Each vinyl and recording tells a story of the memories from each ceremony that took place in the Pampa Colorada, from music that was played, and of the figures and lines that the Nazcas used to show their gratitude to the Viracochas.
Maybe you’re wondering how its possible or how we were able to capture those recordings in Nazca Records to then press to vinyl. 
It has been discovered that if an intelligent or exotic species wanted to connect to others, they would use radio signals as they can travel any distance and require very little energy to send.
The logical wave frequency to communicate would be 1420 Megahertz, which is the frequency irradiated by the neutral hydrogen, when its atoms interact between each other. 
Based on this info and knowing that hydrogen is the most abundant element in space, and after a lot of tries, in the end we were finally able to connect with the Viracochas!
This second vinyl contains recordings of the Viracocha Rigopolar. A disc, a journey, a history narrated along the 4 tracks and represented by the lines that the Nazcas called “the greater hands.”

Bordello A Parigi is back on Bolting Bits and they're back with a bang! The Dutch imprint is an integral part of the modern Italo Disco scene and has been its main purveyor for quite a few years, courtesy of the renowned record shop and a clothing line. However, putting out music of the most exciting talent around has always been a top priority for the Brothel and the latest EP is clear proof of that philosophy.

For their latest installment, Bordello welcomes Uabos. The Italian DJ and producer has been a staple of Milan's underground scene for years having shared the stage with legends like Legowelt, DJ Hell, Tiga, among dozens of others. 2018 has been a quiet year for Uabos, after previous releases on Toy Tonics and Gold Nite, but the wait is now over!

The Shadow EP contains four original tracks, shrouded in mystery, emotion and contrast. Uabos seems to build on his previous work, adding new elements into his layered style to create an interesting mix of nostalgia coupled with raw energy. That search for contrast is carried into the hick beats of "Egoland," countered by cascading notes that slip and slide from sweetened funk to devil-may-care debauchery.

Summer's in the air, and with impeccable timing, @bawrut returns with his fourth EP for @ransom-note-records! From ‘Ciquita’ to ‘Rumba’ to ‘Three Sounds’, the wizard from Madrid has been providing DJs with off-kilter dance floor ammunition for years now.

Out 13th September on 12” and digital, the Pronto Arpeggio EP is arguably Bawrut’s biggest and best collection to date. It’s certainly his silliest, kicking things off with a frankly absurd title track which you can stream below. Clocking in at almost 11 minutes, ‘Pronto Arpeggio’ is a prog techno labyrinth of fakeouts, tempo switches, thwacking kickdrums, and huge synths like if Giorgio Moroder did the music for Tomorrow’s World. So yeah, not your average mid-set toilet break tool (although if you want to use it for that, we won’t judge you).

When it came to the remixes, we thought it was only right to enlist two of Bawrut’s biggest supporters. KiNK chisels ‘Pronto Arpeggio’ into a lean slab of high-velocity machine funk, while Ruf Dug teases out a gentler side of the slow-burn acid weapon ‘Shooreee’, resulting in a melodic track that feels tailor-made made for Mediterranean sunsets.

Bawrut absolutely ruled the festivals in 2018 with ‘More Cowbell’ and we’re hoping for more of the same this year as he continues to go from strength to strength. Forza!
