"I started recording 'Kale Me' at my home studio while our washing machine was going wild in the bathroom. It sounded like a huge rave break. I instantly set up a microphone, recorded a full cycle and implemented it into the song. The washing machine stopped working right after the recording and never made any sound again. I was pretty lucky." – Daniel Brandt

Daniel Brandt, co-founder of Germany’s electroacoustic ensemble Brandt Brauer Frick, joins the Erased Tapes family with his solo debut album Eternal Something – released worldwide on March 24th 2017. 

What started off as a more simplistic idea soon evolved into something a lot more complex as the London and Berlin based music producer travelled across the world, experimenting with various other artists and different instruments. From his father’s cabin based in the German countryside with access to nothing but cymbals, to being surrounded by guitars in Joshua Tree, his unexpected journey soon progressed into what became his first solo album. 

Daniel played nearly all instruments himself with the only exception being fellow musicians Florian Juncker on trombone, Manu Delago on hang drum and Andreas Voss on cello. Using his Berlin studio as his main base for recording, Brandt created an album that encapsulates the idea that despite setting out with a particular creative vision, external influences and environments will always shift the process, and create an Eternal Something.

Words from Daniel, January 2017:

“The initial idea was to make a cymbal album. I wanted to surround myself with all types of cymbals. I locked myself into my father’s cabin in the woods for three days. That was the moment I realised it was not possible for me to make an album just with cymbals because other ideas and instruments imposed themselves on me. I had a clear sense of what I wanted to do now. The intention was to let the songs evolve by themselves and not edit too much, keep it raw and have an explosion-like energy to them. I wanted to create a different sound, songs that build up like dance tunes but don't feel like club music at all. Travelling around in California for two months gave me the possibility to deeply get into this concept outside my normal environment. Robert Raths, who served as a great motivator throughout the whole process (I guess he had listened to the record more than I ever had) came up with the perfect order for the songs. This record is about failing to make the original plan happen, but then the discovery of something I couldn't even think of before.”

Prior to being enlisted to create the album artwork, Iranian artist Shaz Madani coincidentally had also planned a trip to Joshua Tree where she documented her own experience of Eternal Something, forming the visual counterpart to the record.

@VonParty and @DreemsDreems are the dynamic duo behind international label @MultiCulti. It was back in 2013 that Montreal’s Von Party (who is also A&R for his brother Tiga’s Turbo Records and recently revealed that his name should be pronounced FUN PARTY - ideally in a German accent) teamed up with the Sydney producer and self-proclaimed Cosmic Sherpa known as Dreems. Proud of their roster of artists making “pan-globo-sexual soulstyle for our times”, the twosome are purveyors of music to dance to, music to trip to, and music to mediate to. 

Serial makers of sleep time soundtracks, we called on the label heads to put together a mix that’ll guide listeners to a peaceful slumber. Featuring music from Brian Eno, Aphex Twin, and the lesser known Dolphins Into The Future, it’s smooth, soothing and we’re planning to fall asleep to it tonight. Great dreams guaranteed.

Saint Abdullah is an Iranian electronic duo now based in New York.
They made a special mixtape for HAB.B. called Iran circa 1980.

They are presenting here a set of sounds that captured the mood of Iran, literally and figuratively, during this very important era. 
They were interested in exploring sounds that were rooted in religious, political, cultural happenings of the time, and came to define the era. 
To this day, the Iranian experience during this era continues to have implications on the way Iran shows up and behaves in the world. 

They have sampled a mix of sounds / songs and also included three of  their own.

On the B side duties is the brilliant Italian composer Dusty Kid, whose latest addition to the Fall From Grace roster comes at a perfect time, with his intelligent, melodic composition he takes the record into another world with slight hints of Glenn Morrison’s original motif.  Dusty Kid Dub remix is a twisted affair, with the abscence of the melodic arpeggiated layers being replaced with bubbly robotic blip crescendos and disjointed laser squeals.  On the final close of this release is the brilliant artist Morttagua.  A resident at Green Valley and a heavy touring artist in his native country of Brazil, his interpretation of ‘Hypnotism’ is strong for the big venues and loud soundscapes.  Rolling baselines and building melodic motifs stagger throughout the original ‘Hypnotism’ riff and this package has extremely gifted musicians essentially jamming and composing on top of riff after riff after riff.  This release is being serviced through DMDS Promo and Your Army UK with DJ Promo going out on Friday June 16th 2017. Release date is June 23rd 2017. Peter has been a continuing member of the Voodoohop crew for a couple of years and has toured with them extensively as both musician and performer. Respected as a DJ and a producer his unique world-flavoured brand of electronic music has been released on Multi Culti, Kleine Reise, Crime City, Polychrome Sounds and now Invisible, Inc.

His DJ mixes are eclectic, far reaching, transcendent and at times even ritualistic, infused with a deep, dream-like spirituality which has resulted in him acquiring tens of thousands of followers from around the world all avidly keeping an ear out for his unique slant on the “DJ mix”.

Wie ein seidiger Schleier am Himmel, wie ein sanftes Flimmern am Horizont kommt unser neuer Podcast daher. Dieses Mal ein sogenannter „Inside Job“ - ein Set von Kranich Resident und dem Fuchs & Elster Mitbegründer Julian „Nelken“! Eine wahre Wonne an wohlsortiertem, elektronischem Eklektizismus - gewürzt mit allerlei Feinheiten aus handgemachter Musik und satten Bässen. 

Man hört nach wie vor die musikalischen Wurzeln die damals die Decke des "Fuchs & Elster" Clubs durchbrochen haben - doch die letzten Jahre, die Julian vor allem auf dem Klunkerkranich verbracht hat, geben diesem Set eine luftig-leicht tänzelnde Note, zwischen melodischem House und souligem Downtempo. Ein sommerlicher Wohlklang, der den Betonboden Neuköllns zur Blumenwiese werden lässt. Wie ein kleines Festival im Kopf, Sonntagmorgens, taufrisch und mit Lust auf mehr!

After the success of their first release, DSC – Far Reaching/Too Hard, Holding Hands is back with their sophomore outing and as before it is taking no prisoners.

Inspired by a Nicolas Lutz set as he warmed up Fabric for Villalobos a couple years back, the Furnace has a break beat that will push the subs of any club to the limit. With every build and drop it increases in momentum until you are left with no choice but to throw down on the dance floor with unbridled passion. The Furnace may be all about the big beat but it is no one trick pony. The tune has a depth and weirdness to it that will certainly keep you coming back for more…

The Sorcerer is a collaboration with good friend of DSC’s, Guava. It is made up largely of recorded percussion and vocals at DSC’s studio in South London, which gives it a very special swing on the dance floor. The track lulls you into a false sense of security for the first third before finally letting the big freakiness out of the box. This is one for any DJ that wants to leave clubbers going nuts and scratching their heads at the same time.

Both tracks are produced and sculpted for the club. They want big sound systems and dark rooms.
