Silinder, from Dublin in the Rep. of Ireland has been producing electronic music for over 22 years now. 

'deep, dark & hypnotic with a melodic theme'

That's how Gavin describes his productions. Growing up on his parents & older brother's vast taste in music ranging from 70's Irish Folk & Disco to 80's Italo & Synth Pop. 

Gavin has ended up with a vast array of musical influences which are ever present in his productions to this day.

With releases on highly respected labels from around the world including Sudbeat, Proton Music, Jackpot Records & Disco Gecko Recordings to name a few and gaining massive 
support over the years from some of the biggest & most in demand dj's from around the world (Sasha, Hernan Cattaneo, Charlie May, Toby Marks (Banco De Gaia), John Digweed, 
Anthony Pappa, Fulvio Perniola (Fathers of Sound), Rusty A Egan (Visage),Nick Muir (Bedrock),Petar Dundov, Solomun, Nicole Moudaber, Armin Van Buuren, Barry Jamieson, James Zabiela, 
Tom Robinson (BBC), Tiesto & Henry Saiz), Silinder has become a highly regarded name in the electronic music scene.

'I never have a set agenda when working on music, although my music may have a dark undercurrent, I always try get a good uplifting groove going.'

Being a husband & father to three kids, Gavin finds his time in the studio a therapeutic session.

'It's my little getaway, a time for me to release all the mixed emotions of my everyday life into my music'

It's obvious to see & hear that Silinder is enjoying his time in the studio and with his productions

For our first mix we have LUCY with a special 2 hour journey! @lucyarrowsmith

Lucy discovered dance music on a trip to Ibiza. As her love affair with this music unfolded she felt a growing sense of joy and freedom. DJing came naturally and it was the perfect vehicle through which to share the healing power of music. Her passion motivates her to keep learning and expanding as a DJ. She says, ‘Dancing connects you to your ‘tribe’… to an experience of feeling open, free, and truly alive’.  

Lucy’s musical style is unique. A deep groove runs through her sets as she segues between darker tracks and dreamy soundscapes along with driving rhythms which flow deep, soft and driving, taking you on a journey of self-discovery.  

She is primarily a progressive house DJ but she also enjoys the tribal and indie sounds right now and gets her inspiration from a multitude of DJ’s such as John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo, Tantum, Mira, Brian Cid and Frida Darko when she's indulging in her love for downtempo sets.

Lucy is relatively new to the Sydney dance scene and has shared the decks with Henry Saiz for Return to Rio, Bootz n Catz, Sunset Project, The Fan Club, Phil Smart’s Tempo Comodo at club 77 and most recently the launch party of the Return to Rio festival with Monkey Safari at The Abercrombie. 

Lucy also runs a bi-monthly progressive house event with Steve Marx and Andy Hardwick called Inside Out. 

You can catch her playing next at Return to Rio festival at the end of October.

Decoded Sundays - Nick Stoynoff

The recording from my set on the main stage, day 3 at Return to Rio 2023. 
Opening a day full of incredible music on the stage from Nick Warren, Amonita, Paris and some of Sydney's best artists from Frida, Samantha Loveridge, Andy Ef, Zankee Gulati and many more; and the first set the morning after a blistering 5 hour masterclass from Patrice Baumel. 

I took the opportunity to make the most of the 11am slot time and play some really beautiful up-beat melodic house, groovy deep house and all-around happy music for the opening slot of the day. 

Definitely the most fun I've had playing behind the decks in a long time!

HAFT, the Iranian duo of Sam Nasehi and Amir Subb, are known for fusing hypnotic synths, deep- rooted pads, and intricate percussion into a sound that bridges traditional textures with modern progressive house. Their debut three-track EP on Balance Music delivers a journey filled with psychedelic undercurrents and shimmering atmospheres that is crafted equally for the dance floor and for deep listening.

The brooding ‘Driftor’ is designed to nudge any DJ set in the right direction. An off-beat bass drives the engine, allowing you to comfortably sit in the pocket of its inviting narrative. Steely drums and percussion form a cohesive frame, while a bag of tasteful effects, samples, and stabs fill the remaining spaces. Once the breakdown hits, in all its subtlety, you know you’re in the hands of professionals. This is essential prog, designed for any occasion.

There is an undercurrent of psychedelia running through ‘Myntal’, hypnotic and consuming. Low- end frequencies double as notes, merging with the bass to create a dizzying effect. Its main-room identity, however, is confirmed by drums that strut forward with propulsive energy. It all points towards a seductive breakdown, its layering teasing a drop that confirms it: this is designed for floors ready to ignite.

Filled with depth, ‘Prism’ shimmers and shakes as synths and stabs perpetually morph. The result is a continuous stream of sonic moments to lose yourself in. Thankfully, the dense bassline and drums bring you back from the edge of hypnosis, filling the space with an elastic energy as buoyant as a trampoline. Then comes the breakdown: bells dissolve into minor-key haze, half beautiful, half surreal: an inviting dream-logic that is hard to deny.
