The man who couldn’t find a meteorite.

Once there was a man who spent his whole life looking up at the stars.

As a child he dreamed about a meteor falling down from the sky, in his dream he picked up the meteorite and it became one with him, granting him the power to see all of the universe at once.

Years passed by and he forgot about the dream until one day he saw an ad that said: “Scientists wanted for meteorite expedition in Antarctica”. His heart filled with joy and he decided to join the crew.

Antarctica was the single most beautiful and most lonely place he had ever seen.

He was extremely motivated to go on the meteorite hunt, they would get up early and search for meteorites the whole day.

The second day the first meteorite was found! One of his teammates shouted so loud that even though everyone was spaced quite far from each other they all came running.

That night they even celebrated with a little Champagne.

Days would pass and almost everyone, but him, had found one or even more meteorites, a weird feeling came over him, he still was convinced he would find one but the enthusiasm began to make way for an eerie dark feeling.

After 18 days all of them had found one except for him. Although everyone motivated him and said don’t worry you’ll find one that black lonely feeling started to tighten its grip, he started to feel isolated from the rest of the group on these infinite white plains.

At night he experienced darker and darker nightmares of a black abyss sucking him into a void. The nightmares hunted him during the day also. Like a dark beating heart beneath the ice.

Going into day 26, the last day of the expedition, he still hadn’t found one. By now he almost didn’t speak to anyone anymore and he just stumbled forward not even looking anymore. After 4 hours the crew returned to the base but he just kept on walking, no one had even noticed that he didn’t come back.

After hours of walking his body suddenly stopped. He felt a great force pulling on him from beneath the ice. Still lost in his thoughts he didn’t even realize what was happening. He didn’t notice the giant meteor 30 meters below the ice.

It happened in a split of a second, his whole body turned instantly into water and got beamed down in a small ray through the thick ice straight into the meteor.

Back at the camp they finally noticed him gone.

The rescue mission only found a pile of his clothes.
