I: the bargain

normally id say something like 'happy harvest moon' and talk about growth and stuff but this year feels different somehow. growth is a complicated concept in a world of finite resources. 

this thought is mostly for myself but maybe it will help you too: i reckon its okay to put temporary pauses on the never-ending pursuit of personal growth. pauses to reflect. pauses to remember. pauses to pay homage, to honour the places you came from, the people who hurt and helped you, the struggling past (or present) versions of yourself who could use a little extra forgiveness.

one could of course say that pausing is ultimately in service of growth - a necessary part of it even - to which i would say: true, but it doesnt even need to be about you. places, people, struggles - they can be honoured for their own reasons, and sometimes should be. 

that humility is good for the soul is no coincidence.

@michaelred sends us on a seamless float through time and space. hardly in need of an introduction, Michael has been an enormous contributor to the music scene for quite some time. label head à la low indigo, he is known for both his heavier selects +productions, as well as his penchant for mixing and making flowing slow tempo cuts. this mix is steeped in the latter. ethereal, yet engaging through til the end, it is feeling oh so right to put this out through The Tea.

This mix is inspired by Entelechy's set out of the Island Wubs sound camp [Thanks for having me!] at Otherworld festival in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, Summer 2022, with some slight remixing to enhance the listening experience.

Keeping playful and sultry with the pawcast chill-dubstep vibes, Entelechy launches a stellar voyage for any space cowboi and their feline familiar to explore outer and inner space. Traversing a range of strange landscapes, we journey far into the expanse, through turbulence to prolific encounters, before circling back for the home ascent.

Entelechy's Caturday Pawcast vol.4: Otherworldly Wubs [Cat's Quarters Mix]

Inspired by the death of a loved one, “Monad” is an ode to their memory and serves as a tribute to their influence on Creatura’s music. The word “Monad” is a reference to “Soul group” and the intensity of connection that these individuals have within our lifetime. The E.P. also explores the artists journey of moving from Toronto to Berlin in pursuit of her music career, and the themes that influnced her progression as an independent artist.

With elements of ambient, downtempo and experimental music, “Monad” unveils Creatura’s progression as a producer while staying true to its dreamy but deeply moving sounds. The E.P. Is evidence of the artist's ability to craft immersive and emotional soundscapes, containing a blanket of harmonic sweetness with her layered vocals. Creatura’s ambient and melancholic sound continues to be of comfort while continually drawing the listener deeper into the unknown of her music.

without rambling on too self-indulgently, this set was at once the culmination of a lifetime of love and experience in both electronic and traditional folk music worlds, while also only the first baby step towards a deeper integration of these once (and still, in many ways) disparate-in-my-mind music modalities. i expect this continued dialogue to take several shapes over time.

the artwork (care of  myles_away) is a dance of light and shadow, featuring richly coloured flowers and lush greens, but i called this musical journey 'roots'. its kindof about this process: the establishing of (and communion with) ones roots (all possible meanings), in order that one may become their most potent and colourful (and dancing) self.
