Finally, we reached the summit of Geomeun Oreum. The summit had a trail along the ridge. Walking along the ridge, we could overlook Jeju City and the sea beyond. Looking west from the summit, we could see Aewol-eup in the distance, with rows of oreums visible there as well. It is said that long ago, the villagers used it as a pasture where they collectively grazed cattle and horses.

At the summit of Geomeun Oreum, the wind was strong. It was clear, but a cold sensation still permeated. Except for the pine and Oriental arborvitae trees along the ridge, not a single leaf had yet emerged. However, a silver magnolia tree with glossy leaves caught my eye. And in the fierce wind, the silver magnolia tree often swayed heavily, making rough sounds. I was able to record the strong wind and the swaying of the silver magnolia tree at the summit of Geomeun Oreum right away.

A binaural night-scape featuring the distant hoots of Great Horned Owls set again the gentle tinkling of Aravaipa Creek. Distant Yellow-breasted Chats also periodically sound off. Recorded 2 May 2017 on Nature Conservancy property near the eastern edge of the Aravaipa Canyon Wilderness Area in southeastern Arizona.
