Pour ce 56ème épisode (et oui déjà), on accueille aujourd’hui dans notre dark kitchen un nouvel artiste de notre prolifique scène lyonnaise : Stepanov.

Fondateur du projet Visual Rhythms, notre cuisinier du jour défend une approche ouverte et évolutive de la musique. Cela a commencé dès sa première rencontre avec les musiques électroniques, en découvrant d’un côté la techno minimale notamment du label Minus et de l’autre, la néo-trance sensible et progressive avec le crew de Border Community. 

Après plusieurs années passées derrière le booth, Stepanov s'épanouit désormais à travers une vision plus globale et éclectique. Piochant dans les genres, les énergies et les époques entre downtempo, electronica, acid, breaks, progressive, trance, techno... pour que chacun de ses sets soit vécu comme un rite d’initiation. 

Pour lui la musique est un espace d'explorations et de découvertes. Et il nous prouve encore une fois l’étendue de sa palette avec ce nouveau mix trance/techno 90' 2000' bien relevé avec un soupçon de techno breakée aux influences UK. Bon appétit l’équipe 🌯

Born and raised in Valence, in the beautiful Drôme, Stepanov is a child of the nineties; brought up in front of the television watching clips from the MTV and MCM channels that his cousins watched over and over again.

This period gave him a taste for music, particularly electronic and club music!

It was much later, at the age of reason, that he developed a taste for breakbeat.

For CJA, he dives into the party classics UK style: oldschool breakbeat, happy hardcore and big beat.

For the next Blue Hour Music chapter, a special friend of the label’s family is stepping in. Hailing from the city of Delft, Dutch composer Spekki Webu delivers ‘Tenzan’, a forceful 4-track EP which might be the producer’s most ambitious project to date. Spawned from a place of personal reflection, Tenzan is the result of the ongoing cycle of life that has been influencing Webu since his early years. This philosophy was heightened after a fascination for mountains and a series of dreams about enlightenment on top of a sacred hill. These dreams later became reality after witnessing a ‘Tenzan’ (translated as ‘heavenly mountain’) during a trip in the Japanese wilderness. The cycle of life as represented by the heavenly mountain formed the spiritual direction to complete the narrative for this long-running Blue Hour project - as the leaves fell into place a new cycle began. Aligned in force and vigor, the A-side takes off with ‘Okada’, a grooving tension builder led by ominous melodies that drift off into the depths of the forests. Entering a state of empyrean elevation, ‘Horizon’ is a dub-induced peak-time roller of monumental grandeur. On the B side, the gears shift as ‘Solaris’ unveils a contemporary reinterpretation of 90s acid trance, fusing psyche-warping panned drones and minimalistic drum programming set to make blood pressures rise. Coming full circle, ‘Eion’ delivers euphoric salvation with a pulsating bassline guided by dreamy, repetitive soundscapes that reach for atmospheric heights. Vertigo-induced and wisdom-fueled, Spekki Webu opens the portal to the next cycle of sonic exploration marking the 25th release on Blue Hour Music.

The Hague based multidisciplinary platform and label traumgarten, founded by dj Vox supreme, shares otherworldly sonic investigations into music and sound in order to create shared dreaming experiences.

'Noyau' was conceived on the electronic interspace. A poly-genre lovechild of or+be, two artists on a parallel sensory trajectory in music. or+be, pronounced as orb, is the collaborative project of French artists Beatrice M. and Orchid. The musical pair bonded over their particular love for deep and aquatic elements and precise sound design, the sort that sneaks deep into your brain. Their newest EP is an encapsulation of sounds drawn from the deepest and most psychedelic corners of the club, from drum and bass, halftime, ambient, to tribe- and trance-inspired grooves. The airy serenity of 'Cîme' gives way to 'Protocol', a downtempo march, before 'Raison' takes over with a throbbing undulation that evokes past euphoria. French-Australian artist Tangerine concludes the EP in fashion with a hypnotizing remix of 'Raison'.

25% of proceeds will go to Medical Aid for Palestinians. MAP works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees.

The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a new track from JC Laurent. Nothing But An Illussion" is the title track off the new EP forthcoming on Cielo Records. The French-based imprint is a techno project from JC Laurent that has so far been a vessel for his own cutting-edge ideas and diverse taste. Having over ten years of production experience to his name, JC Laurent has released on the likes of Coyu's Suara, Abstract Division's Dynamic Reflection, and Deepak Sharma's Hidden Recordings amongst others. Today we premiere the third track on the EP which steps into a slightly leftfield approach with cyclical tones, shuffling beat and a sci-fi aesthetic.

In a time beyond time when the boundaries between dimensions were screamed louder than a
cosmic loom, the entities Property and si’nedd emerged into existence. They were forces of
nature, not bound by physical laws but intertwined with universal essence. Property, the
embodiment of structure and form, was the stabilizing force in a world of chaos, while si’nedd, a
radiant entity of light and potential, sparked a dynamic touch. The people of the land, who lived
in the vast plains of Feld and the sun-drenched deserts of Liwa, watched in awe, coining this
phenomenon the shining regeneration of renewal and unity, all in accordance with the 8th
hexagonic chapter of this endless belief.

Today, the power unleashed in their encounters reverberates through the fabric of reality,
causing ripples that can heal. The wise ones of the ancient world, adepts of the I'Ching, are fully
aware of this feat. Consulting in the sacred texts of I’Ching, we begin to understand the
necessity to Unite, to bring forces together in harmony rather than to conflict. Not everyone has
to understand the intensity of Property and si’nedd's connection. In the quiet village of Adevo,
nestled between the mountains of Belan and the forests of Skai, the people experience both
Dolor and Noxa—pain and harm—when forces are unbalanced.

There – the nearby fields, the Ventu winds blow gently, Onie flowers are blooming, symbols of
hope and healing, whispering that with unity comes the potential for the construction of the great
temple of Belan.

As the cycle of encounters continues, the villagers begin to understand the deeper rhythm of the
book. They realized that the union of Property and si’nedd isnot merely an event but a
process—a weaving of existence that neither begins nor ends with the measurement of time.
The wise leader we call Somni, slides in to remind us of the following teaching we hold so dear
to our hearts: "We sleep, but the loom of life never stops, and the pattern which was weaving
when the sun went down is weaving when it comes up tomorrow." With this, the people of
Adevo, Liwa, and beyond now embrace the blend of creation and destruction.

We open our eyes –

In the heart of Adevo, within the temple of Belan, there stands a mysterious mirror, said to
reflect not just the physical form but the very soul of those who gaze into it. Yes, you – yes, me.
This mirror is believed to hold the secrets of unity, for when two stood before it, their reflections
would merge, revealing a single, harmonious entity. We are reminded that "holding together
means uniting," a principle that is echoed in the teachings of the 8th hexagram. It has been said
that only through true unity can the forces of Property and Si’nedd be balanced on a string of
harmonic madness –
In moments when life moves quickly and the pace of existence is overwhelmed by threats, the
mirror offers a stillness, urging those who look into it to slow down.

"The way does not speak," the elders whisper, "but in its silence, it guides." It is in this quietude,
this space of reflection, that the villagers are discovering their inner guidance, learning to
navigate the complexities of life by holding together, united in purpose and spirit, even as the
world around them swirls with the chaos of change – or rather, the Book of Change.

Stepanov a découvert les musiques électroniques avec d'un côté la Techno minimale de Marc Houle, Magda, Gaiser et Richie Hawtin du label Minus; et de l'autre la néo-trance et l'electronica de Nathan Fake, Fairmont, James Holden, Caribou et Four tet. 

Des univers totalement différents qui ont forgé le goût de Stepanov pour les esthétiques affutées. C'est ce qu'il essaie aujourd'hui de retranscrire dans ses sets : UK garage, Progressive, Trance, Techno, Breakbeat, Electronica, Acid-house... Stepanov aime explorer, découvrir et surprendre ! Il ne s'enferme jamais dans un style et garde une oreille curieuse. 

En 2019 et 2020 avec son collectif Pasithée, il a organisé des bains sonores : des événements intimistes autour des musiques ambient, de l'immersion sonore et du lâcher prise. 

En 2021, il rejoint l'académie de djs "Nasthon records" en collaboration avec le club le Sucre à Lyon : un dispositif pour accompagner les djs et producteurs émergents.

En 2022, il lance son projet actuel : Visual Rhythms. Il organise des événements et gère une émissionsur la webradio Radio Béguin. Le mot d'ordre ? Exploration des musiques électroniques club d'aujourd'hui et d'hier ! 

En 2023, Visual Rhythms prend de l'ampleur avec plusieurs djs résidents : Maïa Neel, Ernest, Liut, Yayo, Bouazza, D3, Quarante et un. L'équipe se structure autour de la curiosité musicale et de l'ouverture. 

Basé à Lyon, il a eu l'opportunité de jouer dans différents clubs, lieux culturels et festivals de la ville et de la région : Le Sucre, La Bobine, Super 5, Heat, Terminal, Groom, Extra Nuits sonores, la Terrasse de L'Ecam...

Une pensée à tous les ravers ayant connu la répression suite à la loi Criminal Justice Act mise en place en 1994 en Angleterre.
