This is a live recording from my set on 3/11/2022 at F8 Nightclub in San Francisco as part of the Something Queer Re:Union party. The event was a huge success! I played in the back room after Mr. Seago. The set includes a lot of great dancy progressive tracks on the more melodic side. This was a bit more of a "club set" than my normal darker mixes. Felipe Millard is a Brazilian DJ, who, like a large part of the population, has traces of his family's history of indigenous colonization. After delving into the study of Ayahuasca medicine and rescuing the connection with his ancestry, the musical project Ancestrall emerged, where he found his life purpose, uniting electronic music with ritualistic sounds. He discovered in ethnic sounds (downtempo, organic house and Afro house) the perfect union of everything he believes in, spiritual music of healing and liberation from our deepest layers.

What an honor to co-headline and open up the main/club room at FlashDC! — one of the best sonically dialed in rooms in Washington DC let alone the East Coast [and the lighting magic there!]—  …. along with the the down-to-earth positive vibes of its club staff and the warm collection of DC underground electronic music community. I wanted to make it a special hypnotic ambient start to the set with positive frequencies to set a heart chakra meets third eye chakra energy for the room and steadily build the energy in the room as it filled up from zero to a full room to hand off to the dynamic @elifmusique to further build and dazzle the room w her frequencies. Heavy inspiration in my set from one of my current favorite producers, Guy J and his Lost&Found vibe. The insertion of Galactic Light Language in the set is deliberate as the Earth unfolds into a higher state of consciousness as of April 2024. The mantra is a heart chakra seed mantra which opens up the heart space and is perfect for increasing connectedness to all, the thing that is needed the most these days. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity made possible by the organizers @FlashDC and also @allvotescountDC <3

My inspiration for the second installment of this series came from one of my recent events. My co-headliners played some unique and special journeys that I haven't heard in awhile. I was very happy with their work and wanted to create a journey myself. 
 
The key to this series isn't about perfection but to be in the moment, organically creating what is felt deep inside. The sounds and rhythms, weaving through layers and textures, moving with purpose, seeping into every crevice and pore within oneself. This is the intention and the focus, the spiritual side of the music, which my heart and soul yearns to share with you. Hope you enjoy and thank you for listening.

Wrote this track back in the summer of 2015 in Durham, NC while still at Duke. It was about 2am on a Saturday and there was a party going on downstairs / a big bonfire in the backyard. I felt exhausted from producing all day. I shut off my computer and left the studio to go hang with friends but there was some voice in my head telling me to go back. 

I booted the computer back up, wrote the chord progression in about 30 seconds, then randomly dropped 2 pieces of the acapella from Isley Brothers ft. Angela Winbush, Lil'Kim, 112 - "Float On" which fit surprisingly well. I brought a few friends into the studio soonafter and seeing the looks on their faces I knew this track must be finished.

Over the last 2 years I've made 186 versions and counting, and here is what it turned out to be. 

Fun fact: the original name of the project file was "Bout 2 Go 2 Sleep."

Out now on the Anjunabeats in Miami compilation.

Took me some time to learn that despite how open, peaceful and loving you attempt to be, people can only meet you as deeply as they've met themselves. So to goes as far as putting yourself out there in the wind, you run the risk of teetering on the precipice of either being remarkable or free falling into ruin. Where's the middle ground? Where is the happy medium of being yourself and inspiring others? Its really difficult sometimes to feel connected to others when dealing with depression or feeling lost. Music has come to the rescue once again. Today is today and although tomorrow isn't guaranteed, there's always another opportunity to turn things around.

Witchtape #51 | Guest Wizz : Disfunctional Disco

(Story continued from Witchtape #45)
The little witch was already flying for countless hours over an endless desert, steadily following her inner compass into South/South-Eastern direction.  She was starting to feel tired from all that flying.  Her head grew heavy and her sight grew dim.  She had to stop for the night.  Luckily, she was nearing the other side of the desert as she spotted a few shrubs in the distance.  After a while, she saw some patches of grass and a few beautiful giant trees as she flew over the African savanna.  On her right side there was a breathtaking sunset unfolding… it was high time to land and find a safe place to spend the night.  The witch saw no humans which meant the place was safe.  She landed at the foot of a majestic tree, but didn’t have much time to savor the glorious sunset, as a few hungry lions were stealthily approaching her, observing the witch from close quarter, preparing for a decisive lethal strike.  But while looking at the witch, a feeling of tenderness took hold of the lionesses.  Instead of attacking, they walked slowly into the direction of the girl, who started to talk with a soft voice to the queens of the savanna.  This drew the attention of even more lions and soon they were all lying at the feet of the witch, while she played and frolicked with a bunch of lion cubs - who especially loved to play with the girl’s long hair (the hair of a young witch is of an indescribable softness).  The leader of the pride welcomed the young witch and ordered the other animals to prepare a soft bed of grass for the exhausted girl.  And soon the little witch drifted into a blissful sleep in the middle of a circle of lions, whom had never ever experienced a similarly peaceful presence in the savanna… (to be continued in Witchtape #52)

Critical value (Justin B ) is a curator of fine melodic progressive house and trance tunes. Originally from Southern California, he got his start DJing in the Los Angeles music scene in 2001. Growing up in a Lebanese-American family, music was always an integral part of his life. His first gigs were in dimly lit chill-out spaces of the back rooms of clubs. He later co-produced a "UK-style" queer weekly at a nightclub in L.A. Those experiences left a mark on his style today and he continues to be influenced by the rave scene, desert parties, dirty dirty house clubs, burning man, and sounds that remind him of home. 

Today, Critical Value wants to take you on a sonic journey through the deeper and darker parts of progressive house and progressive trance tunes. Although, don't be surprised if Critical Value takes you to other places too, perhaps some psy-trance, downtempo, tech-house, techno, or even a few cheesy vocal trance numbers. 

Enjoy your sonic journey as critical value takes you on a floating voyage through the music that he loves to listen to in hopes that you will fall in love with these tunes like he has.
