A re-amplification of the piece Kokytos for organ by Daniel Glaus.

“Kokytos” is part of a series of organ improvisations that were recorded with a wide range of microphones placed both inside and around the instrument. This assignment will build on Glaus’ work and take it a step further.  

The Assignement:  
Re-amplify the recording, or elements of it, by playing “Kokytos” back over a loudspeaker. Use the pool of sounds resulting from the step before and compose a piece of your own, perhaps adding further sonic treatment.  

I stayed with the original piece, no further compositions.  

But I emphasized and re-amplfied the Kokytos, taking into account these five semantic axis:
- the pipe as long resonant space (speaker to a cardboard-pipe)
- the wind (speaker near to a ventilator)
- the air (speaker in distance to microphone)
- the transcendent (dry signal through a eg&g 5208 Lock-in-Filter, no reference-signal)
- the ear (speaker through the drum of my drum kit)

Ōshima Ryōta was a Japanese poet of the Edo period. Some sources say he was a disciple of Yosa Buson, while others say his master was Hattori Ransetsu. He's mostly remembered for his essay “Bashō ku kai” 芭蕉句解 ('Study of Bashō's haiku') published in 1759, a magnum opus of his studies and literary theories on Matsuo Bashō's work.

Lost in the depths of decayed technology, vintage televisions ooze with chaotic imagery, their screens intertwined with thick cables and organic matter. Mud and slime cover this forgotten space, where machines have grown flesh, spilling out like the remnants of a long-lost signal. As the visuals morph endlessly in a single shot, a haunting fusion of dystopian decay and grimy textures emerges. The air is thick with a sense of collapse, where the past meets an unsettling, surreal future, leaving you trapped in the circuitry of this abandoned world.

This morning a sequence of phrases, dream voices and images accompanied by a musical theme haunted my waking moments. I've attempted to transpose it directly into sound as quickly as I could. 
"crossing the bridge of many shapes. we will meet again when they months grow longer. discussions going on for many weeks. "the Hindu and the Muslim boys carry baskets of corn. any basic coverage is universal. the girl child leads and elephant, her hand held by the elephant's trunk, her other hand five roses. there is a kind of sheep with cobalt stripes. the mango pit, once peeled, turns out to be an almond.
