EPM Podcast 148 comes from non-other than France’s greatest techno ambassador, Laurent Garnier. Garnier remains one of the world’s biggest champions of house and techno music. His enthusiasm and love for the scene has taken him the world over in his roles as a producer, radio show host and above all, globe-trotting headline DJ. His building DJ sets, full of invention and emotion are the stuff of legend and he remains at the peak of his artistic powers. After 4 years behind the scenes it was revealed this September that Cod3 QR was in fact the label he founded anonymously in 2018 with Scan X. The enigmatic label has presented artists' names first coded, then revealed later, featuring artists such as Agents Of Time, R.O.S.H., CYRK, Madben and Joe Farr. Laurent Garnier and Scan X announced themselves as the protagonists behind the French techno project with the launch of the 10th release of the label featuring a track from each of them. Now Laurent Garnier rounds off this big year for the label with an exclusive Cod3 QR mix featuring tracks from the mysterious label and some exclusive yet to be released future gems. Once again it’s time to arouse your curiosity…!

Laurent Garnier has been making the planet dance for 30 years. One of the pioneering DJs of the dance music scene, he experienced first-hand the euphoria of the acid-house movement in Manchester. He then went on to Wake Up and shake up Paris nightlife, from La Luna to the Palace, not forgetting the Rex Club. As one of the leading lights in French dance music, he has spread his message across the planet, from raves to warehouse parties, clubs to festivals. He is a multi-faceted eclectic artist whose impact on the music scene is far-reaching. But above all he is a DJ, a true DJ. 

His latest releases have been on Kompakt, Rekids and Cod3 QR, the label he founded anonymously in 2018 with Scan X. During 4 years of mystery, the enigmatic label presented artists' names first coded, then revealed later. Unavoidable artists such as Agents Of Time or Joe Farr were then revealed. Finally on the 10th of September 2021, it was revealed that Laurent Garnier and Scan X were behind the French techno project from the beginning with the launch of the 10th release of the label. 

In the last few years, Laurent has composed tracks for the soundtrack of the film Paris est à nous (2019) as well as the soundtrack of the documentary Le Roi Batard (2020), which was awarded at the Jackson Wild Film Festival this year. He is currently composing the soundtrack for the film Entre la vie et la mort de Giordano Gederlini (release planned for 2022 – distributed by Le Pacte). 

Garnier’s musical journey has also been documented by the 2003 book Electrochoc (co-written with David Brun-Lambert) and the recent full-length film, ‘Off The Record’ (2021). After 30 years devoted to music, Laurent has been made Chévalier de la Légion d´Honneur in 2017.

One of the most pivotal and influential figures in modern electronic music, Carl Craig celebrated his twentieth year during MUTEK’s tenth anniversary in 2009. The most recognizable member of what is commonly known as the second generation of Detroit techno producers, Craig began his career as a teenager apprenticing under techno pioneer Derrick May and quickly established himself as an in-demand producer under aliases such as Psyche, 69, and BFC, before moving on to progressive disco manifestations as Paperclip People and jazz-tinged house as Innerzone Orchestra.    The founder and owner of the highly regarded Planet E label, Craig was also one of the central figures behind the 2000 and 2001 Detroit Electronic Music Festival - legendary showcases that attracted a combined two million people in two years.  In 2007, Craig was nominated for his first Grammy, for his remix of Junior Boys’ “Like a Child”.  We are thrilled to present for the first time, his masterful set at our marquee all-night Saturday program at Métropolis, in 2009.
