Alex Niggemann’s AEON label mirrors the peak time DJs sets that the supremely talented Berliner plays, staying focused on conjuring up the spirit of classic and timeless house and techno, updating it and creating new boundless possibilities for the future. Since launching the label in 2013 Alex has been gradually building a family of like-minded creative individuals to keep the AEON ethos moving ever forward. The label’s 17th release sees regular artist P. Lopez team up with fellow Paraguayan producer Octavio and deliver a glorious 5-track techno EP, including a stylish remix from the masterful Tobias. (Berghain / Life & Death).

Having already become established in the label’s ever-growing creative family of super-talented producers with his “The Same Beat EP” (AEON006) and “Don’t Trip” (partnered with Octavio) on the “Lost Tapes Vol.1” compilation LP (AEON010), with this new EP, P. Lopez & Octavio raise the bar yet again. The duo stamp their sonic wizardry all over the techno blueprint – darkness to light, melancholic to euphoric – these dynamic tracks explore a multitude of musical emotions. Razor sharp percussive power with layer upon layer of subtle mood defining sounds creates a decadence that only darkness can bring - cipher for restless sexual tension that comes alive the best clubs around the world.

P. Lopez & Octavio’s deft creative skills blend subtlety with energy and gorgeous quirky compositional traits to create a showcase of stellar tracks that complement each other when played in their entirety, and yet stand out as hi-octane individual gems on their own.

When influential electronic mainstay for many years, Tobias Freund, put the full stop behind his first name, he started releasing tracks that refined the live approach to his broad variety of music between Acid, Ambient and Techno to reduced but jacking grooves that displayed as much attention to detail as to floor impact and became an integral part of the defining sounds emanating from Germany since the turn of the millennium. Here, his remix of “Reaktions” is yet another masterclass in his subtle genius, perfectly in tune with AEON’s philosophy.

Turning back has never been an option. With a career that transcends decades, continents, and genres, Jean Pierre returns with his second solo album called 'No Turning Back'. Pakate Records' nineteenth release signifies a real milestone in Jean Pierre's career.

It coincides with his 40th birthday, celebrating a path born in New York, Miami and now Barcelona, where the 12 tracks have been written and produced. After his debut album on Nervous in 2013, the Colombian artist felt the need to put together years on the road and in the studio between parties, records, and live jam sessions into a project that embodies his biggest passion, music, which never made him lose his way. Techno, house, and minimal are blended together with rich breakbeat loops, rumba rhythms, and hip-hop sounds into a 12-track ode to JP's endless influences and contaminations. Next up on Crosstown Rebels is the hauntingly beautiful release 'Sabor' from the Tel-Aviv based duo Red Axes, with Brazilian-born Abrao on vocals, and featuring a brilliant Isolée remix to boot!

“Give your sounds some room and blades and it will float above the land”. Red Axes

Title track 'Sabor' is an emotive and intricate composition. Spoken in his foreign tongue, there is a soothing and enchanting element to the vocals of Abrao. The variety of instruments and effects could easily have resulted in something disjointed, but all elements flawlessly come together. The instrumental version is complemented by a remix from highly respected Isolée, enhancing its depth and delivering an astute and well-crafted rework that he is famed for.

Red Axes is made up of Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi. Starting off in the band Red Cotton they have spent time living in Amsterdam and touring the world, and are now once again based in Tel Aviv. They have released on Correspondant, Klasse Recordings, Hivern Discs and their debut album ‘Ballad Of The Ice’ was released in 2014 on I'm A Cliché. This year saw them start their very own label Garzen Records. Born in Sao Paulo, Abrao has been creating and producing music for thirty years and can now be found performing live with the Red Axes.

 

Isolée is German-born Rajko Müller and has been creating music for over twenty years. He has released on labels including: Playhouse, Freundinnen, Diynamic Music and most recently Pampa Records. Resident Advisor ranked his 2005 album ‘We Are Monster’ #53 in their Top 100 Albums of the ‘00s.
