It is with great pleasure that I introduce you to Dirty Hole Music, a label founded in 2017 and rooted in the vibrant culture of Lisbon, Portugal. My name is Armando Ferraz, and I am the owner, graphic designer, and music producer behind our humble establishment.

As we embark on this journey together, I would like to share the origin of our label’s name—Dirty Hole Music. This name serves as a profound representation of my hometown, São Paulo. As the largest capital in Latin America, São Paulo is a sprawling metropolis characterised by its bustling population of 17 million. However, our city is not without its challenges. We face significant structural and social issues, where concrete often outweighs green spaces, and education frequently takes a back seat amidst rampant corruption.

In this context, the term "Dirty Hole" encapsulates the grit and determination that define our environment. It reflects a place steeped in complexity—where talent flourishes amidst adversity and creativity emerges from struggle. Through our music, we aim to transform and elevate this narrative, creating a sonic landscape that resonates with both the beauty and the rawness of our experiences.

Over the past eight years, Dirty Hole Music has proudly released 12 Drum & Bass releases from an eclectic array of producers spanning the globe, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil, Germany, and Canada. Our distinguished back catalog features remarkable artists such as Bungle, Loxy, DBR UK, SPMASSIVE, Incorporate, and Dose, each contributing to the distinctive sound that we tirelessly cultivate.

The Rum Baba is a Bristol based producer who was first discovered on Soundcloud and released 'Stop Talk' and '80's Animal' on a New York label Ninthwave in 2012. These tracks went on to be championed by Manchester stalwarts Dub Phizix, Strategy and Chimpo with Dub Phizix also including 'Stop Talk' on his eponymous Fabric Live 84 CD.

Hailed in Fact Magazine's best Bandcamp releases of August 2014 and a remix of 'Baile Folk Girls' included on Chuck Upbeat's Mad Decent supported EP. The Rum Baba went on to co-write 'No One Else' with Mikal for his critically acclaimed 'Wilderness' album on Goldie's Metalheadz. After two further EP's, Doc Scott requested tracks that eventually led to the Hollywood EP for his label 31 Recordings. Five very different tracks all with the unmistakable Rum Baba sound that also includes a fresh exclusive VIP rework of Stop Talk. 

Defined as reggae, moombahton, tropical bass, drum and bass, dancehall and hip hop, amongst a myriad of other genres. The Rum Baba has a distinctive and often-named "trademark" style mostly inspired by a childhood immersed in UK and Caribbean Bass culture and latterly hanging out with way too many DnB producers. 

Supported by Doc Scott, Dub Phizix, Chimpo, Strategy, Break, Om Unit, Mikal, Ivy Lab, Storm, London Elektricity, Blu Mar Ten, Friction, Mako, RIOT (Buraka Som Sistema), Think Tonk, Equiknoxx, Hipsters Don't Dance, Rukus, Smutlee and played in all the usual outlets like BBC Radio 1 and 1XTRA, BBC 6 Music, RMX (Mexico), Noisey (Vice), The Selector (British Council), Rinse FM and Radar Radio etc. etc.

A powerful cathartic energy is coded deep into the dynamic sounds of innovative young Bristol-based drum & bass artist Kidsonic. A sense of tension and release and strong themes of overcoming challenges and articulating emotions are all tightly coiled into his minimal signature. It’s a signature that has so far been supported by the likes of Noisia, Philth and Hadley and championed by respected labels such as Ekou, Four Corners, inhabit, Hanzom, Incurzion, Monk Audio, Impact Music and many other cutting edge, new-generation stables.

For Kidsonic it’s the sound of total escapism. Born blind, and severely vision impaired to this day, his relationship with frequencies and sound runs deep into everything he does. Brought up in a highly musical family, tinkering with production since the age of 12 and writing lyrics from his early teens, his creations are a reflection of everything in his life soundtrack and his hectic west country environment. Everything from reggae to Bangra to heavy metal to dubstep has all been thrown in the Kidsonic pot during his 24 laps around the sun so far… And it’s all galvanised and concentrated into the unique beguiling deep groove fusion you hear today.

Compounded by his perspective and experiences living with autistic spectrum disorder, Kidsonic isn’t just making music for the dancefloor here… He’s making music to understand the world, himself and how to navigate it. The catharsis never ends.
