2014 stands as a defining moment for the RAM Records imprint. Not only did it announce the pivotal signing of artists like Audio, Teddy Killerz and Bensley but they also oversaw the birth of compilation series RAMLife hosted by Loadstar. Even in its first form, it contained nearly every essential release the last twelve months had to offer. 

But this year, RAMLife is taking you into deeper and murkier dimensions. Having already flexed his production muscle on the ricocheting, four-track ‘Nil by Mouth’ EP, as well as his first visual debut in the music video for ‘Heads Up’, it’s now time for Audio to cut open and expose his musical psyche. 

Including some of the most aggressive, technically adept and prominent artists the genre has to offer, including Bad Company, Optiv & BTK and Noisia to name a few, no stone goes unturned for the album’s entirety. Audio also throws bass-fuelled bullets in the form of exclusives, with explosive VIPs that have yet to be released. 

The brand new cut ‘Foodchain’ from Audio sets a theme which is prevalent throughout all 27 tracks. Uncompromising yet diligently crafted, it leads you into a freight train of musicality which holds you hostage from start to finish. Zipping through to the mechanical composition of Mefjus’ ‘Brainwork’, all the way back to Spor’s heavy-hitting ‘Bullet Time’ remix; this is a no holds barred exploration of the genre’s darker side.  

But what can you expect from the man who garners such an explosive reputation across the club circuit? Audio brings his live personality into the whole album and accompanying mix; one that doesn't let you pause for breath. They're a collection of tracks that'll leave an atomic bomb sized impression inside the community, which further solidifies his reputation as an ever- growing, unstoppable goliath.

Following up the launch of RAM Records new RAMlife compilation series last year (which saw Loadstar offer up a platter of essential tracks), head honcho Andy C has tapped the man of the moment, Audio, for the second edition. 

Ordering an all-out assault on our eardrums, Audio collects 27 tracks from the likes of Optiv & BTK, DC Breaks, Ulterior Motive, Noisia, Bad Company, June Miller, Mejus and more, binding them together with the vicious RAM attitude that has helped the label dominate drum & bass. The album also features today's premiere 'Heavy Bettie VIP', an unstoppable cut from Neonlight, that is just as weighty as its name suggests!

Needing little introduction, and having scored a Beatport number one with latest single ‘Shatterdome’, this fresh cut from Audio yet again reinstates his dominance. Slick and standing with fortress-like tightness, these two sonic slabs of bass bear down on you aggressively. Then again, what can you expect, from one of the most resounding names within the genre; even from his very first output? 

‘Make it Happen’ is bulking and rolls forward like a freight train. Snapping between breaks and bass that bulges with power, it’s a muscular number which brings another meaning to ‘dancefloor anthem’.  Broken up by interjecting sample, frequently pounding loops of distortion and warbling beat patterns pull you deeper and deeper into the mix. Pausing before ascending yet again into all-out chaos, Audio proves his intimidating production standards are upheld with every release.  

Instantly recognisable from the vocal snippet, ‘Napalm’ promises to explode on impact. Detonating crowds at festivals this summer, from Prague’s Let it Roll to stages across Europe, it’s a chunky, clunking record which has already caused devastation across the continent. Distorted and with a warbling, low frequency, prepare to be taken by the synapses into drum & bass’ murkiest waters.

Yet again, Audio demonstrates his unbridled capabilities. Gritting his teeth and once again proving a darker edge to the Ram imprint, this presents one more step towards an Audio LP…

Deep within the core of their sprawling annex, The Institution’s top minds worked diligently at their insidious craft. Their hands moved swiftly, as they worked relentlessly with the sharp tools of their mind; warping words, images, and sounds to fit their malevolent narrative. Their objective was singular, complete control exercised from the shadows, profits reaped from beyond the veil of obscurity. Trust, that most hallowed principle, was nothing to them but a tool of manipulation, exercised to to legitimize their empire. The plan was simple, a classic diversion operated on a massive scale. The creation of an enemy, the eternal outsider, one against whom the public must remain vigilant. Composed of a paradox, the outsider posed no threat, yet could never be vanquished. Instead, his reputation and the shadow of his fearful influence would loom as a spectre, a shade of darkness designed to haunt the masses. Their fear would drive them into the protection of The Institution, shepherded in the manner of livestock. From there, the extension of their complete control would be assured. The machinations of its minds completed, The Institution began its program of domination in full, disseminating its precisely produced PROPAGANDA amongst the public.

Their message was erected upon the walls of their great city, proliferated throughout the mailboxes of its citizens, and across the webpages of it their tightly controlled digital network. Their message spread with viral efficiency. The citizens’ response was sublimely realised, a surge of fear through the populace, shepherding them into the arms of The Institute as they sought security in the face of the threat birthed in pure imagination. Security, The Institution was more than happy to provide; promising strength in the face of the mysterious menace. The Institution’s agents felt the power of their positions strengthen throughout the city, soon holding its highest offices in their grip, putting greater tools of control in their hands. Initiatives were passed, laws enacted, and the vaults of the city drained. The streets were the conduit of their fear, their PROPAGANDA campaign continuing in the fearful whispers of the citizens carrying the fear of The Outsider’s presence. The cycle was set, justification freely given out of fear. The Institute’s diabolic machinations ran as pure as the fear that coursed through the city.

The man pulling the strings behind the revered EATBRAIN imprint, JADE, returns for his second release of the year on his home label with the fiercely executed PROPAGANDA EP, featuring the veteran skills of RIDO. Following on from the much-acclaimed AWAKE EP, Jade powerfully demonstrates that he’s back in the studio and putting his veteran knowledge of what functions on the Eatbrain dancefloor to effective use. Delivering two fresh, tech-infused DnB bangers, along with a faster tempo VIP of fan favourite MAN EATING LIZARD DRAGON, as well as a further strut in the unfolding genre mechanism of slow and meaty neuro in SPY CAR, the PROPAGANDA EP delivers the Eatbrain manifesto in exquisite form. The valley was a lush place, with flora and fauna of all types contained between its mountainous peaks. This way it had been for ages untold, and those who lived there wanted for not in their idyllic existence. Untouched they were by the world, hidden away in a pocket of paradise unknown to all others. Indeed, theirs was a blessed existence, but such gifts were a treasure that could not go unnoticed by all. On that fateful day, a shadow had passed the sun, and it was in the duration of this mid-day’s night that from high upon the mountain a thunderous roar did erupt. On a cold frigid wind came a new beast to the valley, with scales that glittered white as fresh fallen snow. Reptilian as it seemed, upon vermillion wings did it soar, and from its breath came the fury of deep winter’s hoar. It withered the forests that those who lived there called home, and those caught in its wake were frozen to the bone. Not even stone could stand against the great being’s wrath, and reduced to foundations were all buildings in its path. From within these ruins it plundered an invaluable hoard, taking the treasure of the valley’s great lord. With one final roar the beast then took to the skies, returning to the mountain from whence it came on high. Down below lay the valley, its inhabitants frozen firm, in fear under the shadow of that great ICY WYRM.

MIZO returns to EATBRAIN to debut his latest EP, which follows in the destructive wake of his Dust Devil EP on the label as well as further recent releases on labels including Neuropunk Records & C4C Recordings. Filled to the brim with the producer’s characteristic ferocious tones, the EP features a set of four tracks surging with serpentine basslines and deviously distorted sonics as MIZO leads the latest onslaught of the EATBRAIN horde from atop the eponymous ICY WYRM.
