What's in a name? Well, when you decide to call yourself Acid Bitchez, quite a lot. Harking back to a simpler time, when Chicago ruled the roost, the freshly formed duo of Juha Johnny (who eagle eared readers may remember as as one of the black-tie wearing 303-knob twiddlers in Jori Hulkkonen's Acid Symphony Orchestra) and "lyrical miracle" Jessika have made the most auspicious of debuts, landing on Tiga's Turbo imprint to take us on an acid trip of epic proportions.

Titled 'Thinking About Acid' (we're starting to notice a theme here...) their debut record has seen the label draft in fellow acid enthusiasts - the music not the drug - on remix duties with Jori Hulkkonen, General Ludd, Zia and Joeski all brought in to reshape the cut in their own image. Our pick of the bunch? Well that'd have to be Finnish super-producer Jori Hulkkonen's 303 drenched rework which we have the pleasure of unveiling today.

"Dubstep may have a monopoly on wobble, but Tom Demac strikes back on "Critical Distance Pt. 2," a surly brawler of a house track whose shuddering low end recalls Azzido da Bass' 1999 anthem "Doom's Night." It kicks off relatively demurely, with a crisp, shuffling drum groove fleshed out with tuned toms and watery string pads. But that melancholy restraint gives way to something far more primal. That bass has something to do with it, poised somewhere between foghorn blast and the bellow of a wooly mammoth, and a yowling vocal melody drives home the track's essential animal nature—cornered, wounded, and entirely unconcerned with niceties like prettiness and pitch. To the contrary, the way the voice slides between the notes only adds to the drama, reinforcing the sense of being sucked down in quicksand.

That said, it would have been nice to have an instrumental version, for those occasions when you're not feeling quite so Bronze Age hunting-party, although Hrdvsion's remix also does the trick. He keeps his interventions minimal, removing the vocal and giving the drums a faintly garage-y re-shuffle. It's still plenty ominous, suffused in rolling war drums and distant banshee wail."

We are proud to introduce a new member to the Platte family. It’s DCNT aka Franklin De Costa. The Producer who is also an excellent DJ, has been making music with his collection of analogue equipment for more than a decade. With his steady output on labels like Trapez, Curle, Greta Cottage Workshop, Resolute and Mule he has established himself as one of Germany´s top addresses in terms of deep and soulful electronic music and has managed to create his own unique sound signature.
With his DCNT project De Costa transports his very emotional way of producing music into something more focused and straightforward. You can hear this on our latest Platte 005 Release, which presents a nice range of styles over four tracks, that make it as useful for DJing as it is for home listening. The latter becomes very obvious with Abyss, the B1 track that gives the 12-inch its name. Breaking out of the 4×4 template this Neo-Detroit journey is a good example for De Costas ability in building up dense and complex ambient synthscapes and melodies that steadily evolve into ecstasy.
Komakim comes along with a “flat beat” like bassline garnished with a chordy synth stab that makes the track a testament to the power of simplicity in dance music.
With Strawdraw and Irvine on the A-side of the single, the tooliness is very obvious. Both tracks intelligently rely on the fundamental elements of music pitch, rhythm and time. Pounding bass heavy grooves and loose rippling drum patterns sound like the producer turned of his sequencers grid to create a record that is so obviously both vintage and current at the same time.
