I’m seeing the blue sea

And Spring is in the air

For this one (my 5th) I thought I'd try something different from my usual electroacoustic creations. It's an orchestral piece - in 7/8 time - to celebrate springtime. Is it also a bit jokey? You can decide...

To Calmer Seas (naviarhaiku388)

A new track exploring a different sound palette to usual; for this I wanted to use largely brass instruments. A kind of post-rock brass band.
The lead brass instruments were Audio Modelling's SWAM Flugelhorn, French Horn and Trombone.

Takakuwa Rankō was a haijin from Kanazawa and a student of Wada Kiin. Born into a wealthy merchant family, he travelled all over Japan and finally settled in Kyoto, practising as a doctor. A great admirer of Bashō, he erected a small shrine (the Bashō-dō 芭蕉堂) in his honour in 1783. Among his main pupils was the poet Sakurai Baishitsu.

The collection represents an attempt to explore various states of mind, ranging from the eerie to the joyful, elicited by and expressed via repetitive arpeggios accompanied by ambient layers and electronic rhythm.
