For the 95th entry in the Honcho Podcast Series, we welcome @livwutang! Denver-raised, Seattle-honed, DJ livwutang stews together atmospheric soundscapes and bubbly instrumentation that could soundtrack a smoke-filled lounge, or a walk home under the cover of night.

After getting her start spinning on pirate radio, livwutang has been a regular curator and feature at local parties in her area. Her prolific grind and playful mixes earned her a spot as a resident of a room in one of Seattle's premier clubs.

There were concerns about a possible lack of German voices in this collection but acid legend Carlos Souffront came to our rescue and his exclusive “Europe from Detroit” mix dispels them in the most unexpected, poignant and concise way possible. Kraftwerk’s 1977 “Trans-Europe-Express” imagined the continent as a haven of post-historical nostalgia. We asked Carlos to reimagine Europe as a province of Detroit in order to invert the usual perspective.
Often, the Motor City is an object of European musical desire, filled to the brim with projections even, and especially if there is post-industrial desolation to be admired. Let’s try it the other way around. The mix expertly strides between delicacy and a sense of impending dread that culminates in a brief sequence where German history unmistakably rears its ugly head. But there is life beyond that, there has to be. This is not a mind trip, this is a body journey.

They've brought this balanced approach to their sets at esteemed parties/festivals like No Way Back, Draaimolen Festival, and Freerotation with no intent to stop anytime soon. Via their involvement with T4T LUV NRG you can often catch them flanked by dear friends behind the decks, conjuring with labelmates Kiernan Laveaux, Russell E.L. Butler (as b2b duo Boyz II Them), Bored Lord, Eris drew and Octo Octa. Equipped with this wide ranging approach and the bonds of chosen family they push against preconceived notions of the craft, continually self overcoming to bring us something with tangible intent...

"I came into doing this pride mix with the intent of displaying my own personal joy as a non binary trans person. Every song picked is one that has lifted my spirit in some shape or form and I wanted to give that to my own this pride season. Pride for someone like me is often highlighted by isolation and a lack of desirability, so this mix is a gathering of gems that have battled against those feelings. It's also a collection of tracks that I've been listening to this Pride season in particular. A time that has been elevated by newfound love and a growing sense of finally finding somewhere to belong...enjoy!"

The first time we'd ever heard of Carlos Souffront was in 2006, when Derek Plaslaiko was encouraging us to book him for our first 3/03 acid party (alongside Mark Verbos).  Derek would not shut up about a party in Detroit where Carlos just played Aphex Twin (and his many aliases) vinyl all night long and demolished the place.  So it only followed that we should invite him to play an all acid set on 3/03.  Carlos of course was phenomenal that night and has been a regular guest at The Bunker ever since.  Earlier this year, when Aphex Twin began uploading a seemingly endless stream of unreleased tracks to Soundcloud, it was Derek once again who called us and said: you HAVE to ask Carlos do a mix of this stuff for The Bunker Podcast.  Carlos obliged and did this mix for us live in one take (after a surprise practice session on RBMA radio).  Enjoy!

The selections wend a path through a sonic labyrinth of underground burrows and secret doors with unblinking confidence; in this garden of forking paths, left turns are always the safest bet. 
 
Carlos cut his teeth on Detroit radio, curates cheeses in San Francisco, and DJs around the world.
