Ron Like Hell @ Sustain - Release Year 7 - 2021

Campout is an experience that we meticulously curate from start to finish; finding an artist that can connect the dots and close the festival is never an easy task. When asking artists to play, we always encourage them to stay through the festival in its entirety. This is the best way to truly understand what the festival is and what the community brings. 

This brings us to @ciel_dj, who we view as one of the most talented and hardworking DJ/producers in dance music. She's put in the work with her own music but also with her community in Toronto. We fully trusted her to step up and give us all proper send off. From slamming house to funky tech house rollers, Ciel gifted the crowd the energy to make it across the finish line. The ending track, 'Right Here' by SWV was damn near perfection.

We're thrilled to have the legend Ron Like Hell guiding us through these emotional eddies. Truly the best of the best, Ron is a musical magician like no other, an unparalleled master of the dancefloor with seemingly boundless energy and boundary-free flow that reaches back decades and stretches forward to the bleeding edge of dance music. We've fallen in love with Ron's sonic sorcery during many truly transformative sets and shared dancefloor moments - all delivered with unparalleled deftness and gentleness - and also with Ron's generous, bubbling personality which extends warm attention and supportive mentorship with a unique graciousness and sincerity. Ron co-runs the legendary Wrecked party - currently in residence at Basement NY - and makes frequent appearances at some of the most esteemed halls and precious holes we couldn't possibly enumerate. In support is Bounce Boss Furtive (whose development as a DJ has in no small part been nudged by the effusive support of Ron, from pandemic-period invitations to The Lot Radio and an appearance at Wrecked's 12th anniversary celebration in spring 2023). This is Furtive's first return to the Bounce House booth in 2024, primed by a recent romping set at Nowadays and more ready than ever to deliver their finest on beloved home turf.

Every DJ has their own genesis story: a pivotal sound, a formative scene, a defining philosophy. In Kiernan Laveaux's case, her philosophy, rooted in psychedelia and experimentation, sets her apart. Inspired by Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode and New Order, she came of age in Cleveland’s acid house and queer party scenes, developing an ethos that constantly pushes dance music’s limits. Her DJ style is scrambled (in the best way), with zany tricks like scratching, creative EQing and modulation.

This approach reflects the Midwest's DIY tradition, where artists thrive in isolation and cultivate a radical disobedience, as seen in contemporaries like Eris Drew and ADAB. As Laveaux recounted in a 2023 interview with GROOVE Magazin, "Titonton Duvante once told me that being a Midwest DJ is about playing music from anywhere and making it sound like a piece of your spirit."

Spanning two and a half hours, Laveaux's RA Podcast showcases this spirit. It’s a testament to her decade-long career, blending tracks from friends and cherished memories into a transcendent mix. It’s "music to shake your hips to and decalcify your pineal gland." (For the curious, the pineal gland helps regulate your circadian rhythm.) RA.963 will make you dance and think in equal measure—a beautiful, restless and resolutely wicked journey through a singular imagination.

The tunnel is a magical stage and im very grateful to have been asked to play the Saturday late afternoon set, before one of my biggest electronic-music inspirations, voices from the lake. Fresh from Stochastic Drift, Barker’s buzzing second album named Bleep Record of the Month alongside an exclusive 12”, Barker sends a mix that really digs deep into the unique sonic methodology he has constructed across his solo career width a suitable breadth for what is also a milestone in the series, Bleep Mix #300.

From Debiasing to Utility to Stochastic Drift, Barker has been reimagining club music without its definitive thump, instead driven by melody and tactile synthesis, and this selection of tracks expands Barker’s soundworld with a host of artists walking a similar path. “For this mix, I picked out some of my favourite uptempo ambient tracks, recorded at home with two decks and a mixer. It’s music I've used in a lot of different contexts, as a DJ and listener, and I hope you enjoy it.”

Though the occasional dancefloor thump makes itself known, such as on Adriana Lopez’ ‘What Lies Behind’, it’s mostly in quaking subs rather than actual four to the floor, providing some ground for this mix’s airy freeform variety to fly over. We have the wooden plunks and seaspray of Afefe Iku’s Kenyan island sound, the wonky gamelan of Tyler Friedman’s maze of bells and chimes, the dense atmosphere of shaker-produced rain and electrical chirps forged deep in the ruins of The Future Sound Of London.

The midsection of this mix contains some magic in particular: the maestro of drumless trance Lorenzo Senni creates motion from pure jagged synth energy on ‘The Power of Failing’, dissolving into the aether of an unreleased Barker track, which further discharges into the kaleidoscopic stutters of Caribou’s ‘Never Come Back’ with jubilant piano chords and vocal clips wrought into a glitchy, swirling maelstrom of Koreless' prickly warmth. Digital Justice’s ‘Theme From It’s All Gone Pearshaped’ follows, a timeless staple for anyone wishing to dabble in melodic motion and synthsmithery, or any DJ set seeking to add some lift without losing momentum, of which this mix is in no short supply.
