Musik ist die beste Brücke, um uns Musiker zu verbinden, die wir sonst eher als Inseln in der Welt umherschippern. Diese EP hat mich mit meinen liebsten Mitmusikern zusammengebracht und ich freue mich, dass ihr das Ergebnis jetzt endlich hören könnt!

Music is the best bridge to connect us musicians, who we otherwise tend to drift around like islands. This EP brought me together with my favorite musicians and I'm happy to share the result with you!

Procrastination Song

A remixed oldie. Warning: The lyrics of this song contain depictions of interpersonal violence and suicide. That said: Hello… Glad you dropped by. Since I have been busy gardening lately, I haven’t been on SoundCloud all that much. But today… June 17th, it has been cold and rainy, with some snow (yes, snow!) predicted for tonight. So I have tarps and covers ready to go, to cover the frost sensitive plants. Years ago, when I first posted songs here, my exuberance often blinded me to just how bad those songs were. So I ended up posting and deleting songs all the time. Once a dude asked if I was using a mic, as the ‘white noise’ machine hiss of the HD was unbearable. He said it in the kindest of ways. I did end up getting a mic and also did a song thanking him. Other times, I used to introduce my songs with a deep, drawling voice. That was hilariously comedic. Another dude laughed so hard when I was first learning to sing. I posted a song with me warbling from baritone to high falsetto…. OMG. Later, I laughed too. People here were graciously patient and kind as I struggled to learn music way back when. Unlike a friend’s parents who chased him in an effort to take away his banjo and he never played music again. So thanks for bearing with me, as I test out vocal harmonies that really don’t work, or just wing a song, with no rhyme of reason. Or when I rant and howl about this or that. Because that kindness has allowed me to explore music in a way I never would have before.  Mark

Mood Exhibit - The Obscure Silhouette [video link in track description]

Combstead (@markcombs-928282858) made this wonderfully whimsical and melodic track and asked me if I felt inspired to put any words to it. I said "yes, defo, if my dream fairies come through with them." And they did ... seems they couldn't wait... which was great ... except that it was at four o'clock this morning! 

Here's what came through:

WORDS:

I thought at first it was a dream, just a childhood fantasy that had grown and grown. 
But over the years, I realised .... it was real, it was my loved ones singing me home. 

When the day is dark, and the night is long...in the still, small hours I hear their song.
The road less travelled can be full of stones, but their song makes the journey seem not so long.
When I meet the devil, at the crossing, and I have to choose right, from wrong, 
I follow their attunement, and soon find, that where once I was weak, I am strong 

Now the sun is glowing red, and the shadows growing longer, their song is sounding out... even louder
Rising to a crescendo, as every sacrifice is cheered, every last injury and pain is honoured, 
Pulling me up the steep, craggy pathway of that last mountain I have to climb, 
Until I’m released from the valley of the shadow of death, ruled by Old Father Time.

I wrote this from nowhere, on a very rainy day. I was alone, and the rain took me somewhere lonesome and dark, and this short story evolved. I know, it's a bit cliched overall, but it's from the heart!
