Here's my entry for round 15 of Everyone Flips which is a Facebook group where participants all make a beat using the same sample, followed by a listening party for all the submissions.
So it's kind of "20 producers, 1 sample"!
This time we're flipping "Booker T. Jones & Priscilla Coolidge - The Sun Don't Shine".

Short blurb: My process was very quick, listened to the track and in the end when she sings "Our Love Lives On" inspired me to make a jungle track.
So I went to mvsep.com to separate the guitar and vocals from the rest of the track (hint: if you use type Demucs4 you'll never be disappointed with the separation).
Put some delay and filter on those vocals and Flux Mini 2 on the guitar for a different effect. Also used the guitar on double speed for the chorus.
A couple of bass loops and about 6 drum loops later we had a nice drum and bass section ready and this is how I roll ;)

I chose to use some of the tools I've been working with on the recent tours and to keep it short simple and dirty. Tools were 3

1) Mothhunter mods "The Tapeworm" (variable speed modded cassette player with working radio, fucking awesome thing replacing the long lost radio shack variable sped cassette players we used to use circa 1984)

in this I used one Barbara Streisand cassette as source.
2) tape fed into the barely functioning Maneco Microlooper (I waited years for it to arrive..maybe 2008?) its a beautiful beast but finicky fun
3) looper (with on board filtering) feeds in to Eventide H90.
direct to Recorder. 3 single takes of noisey music decomposition.

The Assignment: Count your tools in advance of employing them.
This project was proposed by Alex (aka XHG) from Switzerland, who also drew the cover image.

Step 1: The first thing to do is to set a limit. Specifically, you will determine — in advance — how many pieces of equipment or software you will need to produce and record a satisfactory piece of music. Think through what you want to record and what it might take.

Step 2: Now, decide upon a suitable number of items. It is suggested to count DAWs or AU-hosts and each used plugin individually (e.g., the iOS/iPadOS app AUM plus 3 Audio Units = 4 items). In advance of recording, count each piece of equipment and/or software you intend to use for recording. Come up with a total number.

Step 3: Now, produce a piece of music using the amount of equipment you decided on in Step 2. You can use fewer pieces of equipment but no more.

A Moog iPad app was made to play a simple continuous saw wave ... which was then filmed, being waggled around ... the resulting recording was slowed down, to really hear the true phasing effects, due entirely to the proximity and orientation between the iPad speakers and the video recorder ... Enjoy! 🤗

The base layer is O Pastor Animarum by Hildegard von Bingen.

I recorded it with contact mics on a precariously balanced sound sculpture.
I liked the effect so much that I added a few more layers, but with short blasts of me skipping through tracks by different composers. Tracks included Mozart’s Requiem, Arvo Part’s Tabula Rasa and the Phillip Glass track The Grid from Koyaanisqatsi; which, along with the grid like elements of the sound sculpture, inspired part of the track title. Hildegard’s religious visions are also an inspiration.

Grid hallucinations are simple geometric shapes that are identified as occuring at the inital stages of trance or other altered states.

The image I used for the track is a watercolour I made while listening back to it and thinking about the sound travelling through the sculpture.

No effects just some EQing.
