We continue our series “Intro to the King”, which follows a previous series on the foundations of the church through Paul’s smaller epistles. Previously, this series covered an introduction to the New Testament and a broad look at the book of Matthew in our Intro to the King, and now continue to be introduced to our King Jesus and expound on Matthew 1. This week's focus is on the genealogy of Jesus Christ as presented in Matthew, emphasizing His lineage from David and Abraham. Matthew stresses the significance of the virgin birth and Jesus' role as the Messiah. We highlight Matthew's writing style, Jewish customs, and use of Aramaic words, indicating his intended audience. The genealogy's significance, including the inclusion of women like Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and Bathsheba, is discussed. We look at Matthew’s importance on God’s promises and how they are fulfilled. The sermon also touches on the lives of various kings from David to the Babylonian captivity, illustrating themes of obedience, God's faithfulness, and human frailty. Concluding with reflections on Jesus' birth and Joseph's just character, the message underscores the transformative power of a relationship with Jesus and the importance of adhering to God's word. We explore Matthew Chapter 3, focusing on the significance of John the Baptist's ministry, the concept of repentance, and the differences between various types of baptisms. There are new characters introduced such as John the Baptist and delves into his role as an ambassador for Christ. Matthew 3 emphasizes that repentance is an action, not just a feeling, and explains the purpose and requirements of repentance. We look at the distinguishing aspects between John’s baptism, Jesus’ baptism, and the baptism of the Holy Spirit, underscoring their different purposes and implications. Matthew also introduces us to the Pharisees and Sadducees in Matthew 3, and we highlighted their contrasting beliefs and practices. We slowed down this week in our typical covering a chapter of the Bible at each of our corporate studies. We slowed down with the beginning of Matthew 4 and looked at the importance of scripture and the role of the Holy Spirit in guiding and empowering the Christian life. True worship involves recognizing God's word as supreme instruction. Key points discussed include comparing the four Gospels for a comprehensive understanding of Jesus, the necessity of the Holy Spirit for living a Christian life, and the process of sanctification. We look at these key points through Jesus's temptation by Satan, illustrating that Jesus overcame temptation not by divine powers but by being filled and led by the Holy Spirit as man. Christians are to rely on the Holy Spirit rather than their own strength, and how the Spirit helps resist temptation and empowers believers. We seek an authentic relationship with God, marked by obedience, humility, and an inward transformation by living under the Holy Spirit's influence. God's work is often unreasonable by worldly standards but ultimately more powerful.

We continue in our progress through Matthew 4 and out series Communications of the King; picking up with where we left of last week in Matthew 4:12 beginning with Jesus's transition from temptation in the wilderness to the start of His public ministry in Galilee. We refresh on what we saw last week from Jesus' victory over temptation, emphasizing reliance on the Holy Spirit and God's Word. 

We look at the implications of Jesus’ choice to begin His ministry in Galilee instead of Jerusalem, highlighting His preference to reach out to those seeking a savior rather than conforming to existing religious hierarchies. We look at the historical context, the significance of repentance, the process of Jesus calling His first disciples, and how Jesus' actions were countercultural for the religious establishment of the day as well as for the religious establishment today. Jesus' example should guide contemporary Christian living. 

Key points include Jesus' decision to focus on God's plan over career advancement, the calling of the first disciples, the significant need for repentance, and the importance of personal transformation in service to others. We closed with an exploration of Jesus' inclusive ministry, emphasizing teaching, preaching, and healing. All of this continues to emphasis the need for the daily transformative power of the Holy Spirit in our life, personal and intimate relationship with Jesus, and relying on the Word of God to be the primary tool God uses in the transformative work in our life.
