TWiC 038: Auxcide, cTrix, virt

Pure output from console (running binary in emulator for this test).  No external mixing.  Just thought I'd post a test output of where I'm at in creating tunes for the Sega Genesis / Megadrive.  This is created for the NTSC model which I find is better for syncopated swung tempos.  Lots of learning for me on this track!  Trying to get sounds at the right volumes  / mixing(because the sounds completely change when you turn them up or down) has been insane.

Willbe vs. Gloom & Flipside - Cabaret In A Box

"Wonderlight" is the soundtrack to our demo "Comaland" which won the C64 demo competition at X-2014. The tune is composed on and recorded from a real Commodore 64 with two 8580R5 SID chips. The Cover is a screenshot of the demo, logo pixeled by Yazoo/Oxyron.

A bit of fun with a bunch of old and new samples created purely for the Amiga 500 (unexpanded).   This is an expanded verion - with arcepella thrown in.  (There is also a <64kb pockerpaked version created for a demo)

Haus Muzak (Amiga 500)

A bit of fun from with the old Gameboy DMG.  Created a couple of years back the day before a show in NYC.  Big thanks to 8GB for his custom LSDJ image with the "Bomi" samples in it :-)

Blip-N-Derp (Gameboy DMG)

This is a reworking of a 2xDMG / 1xOP-1 set that i recently performed at Square Sounds Melbourne.

These tracks aren't even close to final, which is basically my way of saying that even though i'm giving this away for free, please consider purchasing my release when it drops later in the year on Cheapbeats :)))

Atomsmasha - Gameboy Drops Vol.2

A work in progress track playing entirely off a Sega Genesis / Megadrive.  A bit of Reverb and EQ added from my Yamaha mixer. This track will probably surface during my set at Superbyte  2015 and Square Sounds Tokyo when I battle a Sega and Nintendo with a ton of new material!  This track still needs some work; but it's a fun jam so I thought I'd upload it as is for you :-)

Spiral Hands On Reptile & Sky - Outrun (RM 2012)

cTrix live on 3RRR (To and Fro radio show) November 2009.  Also contains interview (requested by a few people) about chiptune basics and hardware.  Hardware used is 1 x Gameboy DMG (1989) and a DJM600.  There was no DJM800 available on the night unfortauntly!  Recorded from FM radio :-)

cTrix Gameboy Live RRR Nov2009 w/ Interview

2 x Commodore Amiga 500 Computers (1987)... 1 x DJ Mixer...  and years worth of tracking 4 channel MOD files in Protracker!!  A computer less than 8Mhz in speed and with less than 1MB of RAM (it has 512k!)  This is the result, played live for the first time at Synchronicity 10 party. Previous to this I was playing live on an MC505 but it died a few weeks before the show... or else I may never have pulled this set together! 


The recording was a combo of a X/Y mic and a live line input.  I didn't realize that it was still recording in this fashion when I was playing hence you've got all the background crowd too - but I guess it adds to the atmos!  Outdoor party the undercover area up front and a tin roof that rattles occasionally :-)

Everyone stormed the stage at the end of the show and the DI boxes and shit got trampled! (lol)  Hence it kinda goes into fuzz at the end of the show.  Fun times :-)
