Bio - James Mpbk is the label manager and founder of UK based techno imprint Sequence Music.

James’ journey in electronic music started back in 1999 while working as a brand manager for ‘Ministry of Sound’ in London, before setting up his own club brand ‘Cargo’ in the the UK city of Sheffield. Cargo became synonymous as one of the most forward thinking events in the area, bringing together some of the biggest artists and DJs in world.

Fast forward to 2021, James now heads up sequence music, a record label that has quickly gained reputation among its peers. Attracting both established producers & emerging talent from across the globe, the label has already gained support from artists such as Tale of Us, Fideles, Øostil and many more.

They have curated a collection of artists for the heads on this one as they welcome seasoned production warriors, Crihan, Jay Tripwire & Miller and Vlad Arapasu alongside the up and coming t.na. The VA is very much sequenced for the club as Vlad leads this release with an A1 roller made strictly for the dance floor. On the B1 t.na adds something with a little bit more grit as quirky vox drops and a sub filled baseline carry the track throughout. On the inner sides you’ll find the deep and textured craftsmanship from both Jay Tripwire & Miller A2 and Crihan B2 have a palpable effect! Hailing from South Yorkshire, James Maplebeck (mpbk) is no stranger to the scene. The former Ministry of Sound Brand Manager made his name as resident & curator of one of Sheffield’s most forward thinking club nights ‘Cargo’, which ran in the city for over 7 years. Cargo attracted some of biggest names in electronic music such as Sasha, Kerri Chandler, Dj Sneak, Slam & Deetron, closing its doors for the final time in 2013 with Axel Bowman.

Fast forward to 2020, James now heads up his new project ‘sequence’, a global bi-weekly podcast, showcasing the best in deep melodic house & techno.  2020 will also see ‘sequence’ brought to the dance floor with a series of events - bringing together some of the most exciting artists in the world

Drawing upon decades of knowledge & understanding of the industry - coupled with his talent for branding & design - James launched record label sequence music in 2020.

Having firsthand experience of various roles within the music industry has helped shape the ethos of sequence. The label aims to give each artist, & their work, the respect & platform it deserves. Although in its infancy, the label has already gained attention & support from the likes of Tale of Us, Fideles, VNTM & Kevin de Vries.
