Brain Reaction (feat. Redman And Lettuce)

So, about a month ago, I was in a little bit of a creative rut (and totally in denial about it) "Yeah, I can totally finish music whenever I want, I just feel like doing nothing & playing CS:GO instead" is what I would tell myself (and believe). One weekend, I decided I’d leave my studio (where I spend most of my time alone) and instead spent a few days with a friend of mine. As an extension of being around her I found that creativity was inherent within me (and everyone for that matter), it just required me to see things from a new perspective. Unfortunately, it's not something I can just alter at will, regardless of my awareness of it. So, I decided, seems my friend indirectly & serendipitously triggered an adjustment in my perspective that it should be acknowledged & named accordingly.

The reason I didn't put it out a month ago is because, I'd never planned to release this track, I planned to give it to my friend and that's it. However, after a month of sitting on it, we both decided it'd be nice to give it away for free, and it also correlates with the fact that I just hit 30,000 followers on Soundcloud, so, thanks for that! I'm so stoked that people are supporting my weird ass music this heavily ^_^

BassCoast 2015 Sunrise

Black Mic (pronounced "Mike") and I, both Detroit natives, are extremely excited to announce the release of our much anticipated collaboration album, "Dopesauce". This album includes 5 lazerbass and hiphop soaked original songs - produced by myself, with Black Mic's collaborative vocal efforts - over the past two years, as well as featuring Fat Ray (affiliated with D12, The Dilla Foundation, and Stones Throw), Scorpion (Jamaican Detroit badman), and Joe Mousepad (the ultra-versatile Bay Area behemoth himself)...
With Mic and Mousepad holding down LA and San Francisco, respectively, and myself, Ray, and Scorp holding down Detroit and the Midwest, we're about ready to get this long over-due cross continental collaboration out on to the streets with the help of our good friends at Daly City Records over in the Bay Area. Pre-release out on Addictech.com on 10/25/11 and officially released on iTunes, Beatport, etc. late November. Album art by Wes ill.so.naj Harden. 

This particular track is a teaser clip of the title track, Dopesauce, with Fat Ray on the second verse.

There are certain nights that, when I DJ, I have absolutely no idea what I am going to spin. After all,  I approach the decks, armed to my ears with CD binders filled with all kids of genres, influences, styles, tempos and sonic weaponry; tools (if you will) for the dismantling and reassembling of the “self” through the kind of salvation that only music and dance provides. 

The following mix is a kind of "old-school-vs-nu-school"  Indo/Arab-centric vibes, that sources the sounds of a few music producing friends: Gaudi, Pierre Jean of Masaladosa, Govinda, Drum Spyder, MC Yogi, Amani of Desert Dwellers. This mix assembles itself as a spontaneously gentle combustion of tasty, unassuming groove over  the next 1:08:14

"Mystery of the One" is my humble attempt at creating a body of works which inspire mystical experience. There is such great mystery that surrounds us. Who are we? Why are we here? What is the source that animates us, that breaths us? These questions are not easily understood or answered through spoken language and it is usually the case that answers point to a feeling or realization that one must come to through experience. In my own experience I have found music to be a language which much better excites an experience of the beyond, a language which much better conveys truths which are not as apparent in words. In short, I want to give you something that speaks to my heart in hopes that it will also speak to yours. 

"Mystery of the One" is the oldest track on the album and was written about two and a half years ago. I remember getting really excited about it and staying up extra late to get the guitar parts right. I was so inspired by the mystery I felt in writing that song that I decided I wanted to create an album based around that feeling. Each of the tracks explores a different facet of my fascination with creation.

New Mysteries

"Mystery of the One" is the title track from my latest full length album.  It's the oldest one one the LP as well.  I remember making it in my basement late one night, totally enveloped in the creation of the song, trying to get the guitar parts just right.  For me the act of writing songs and pulling music out of the aethers  into a physical space is really exciting.  After this one, I decided I wanted to make an album centered around mystery and mystical experience.  A couple years later couple years later and the album is complete. This live* mix represents a treasure of old-to-nu-skool trans-Arabic motifs dropped in my set at Giza, Egypt, during the auspicious winter solstice gathering of 2012. 

It was recorded during the The Great Convergence, an amazing gathering held at the pyramids of Giza. The event was conceived by Tamer El-Shakhs and  produced by the excellent production team at The Do Lab, (thank you all!!) 

Many thanks to friends Jef Stott, Nominus, Drumspyder, Zeb SpyfromCairo Visini, Paula Peek Kraus, Said Mrad and Ganga Giri for the tracks they produced that made this cut….
