Citizen Boy is a South African DJ, producer, and mix engineer from Durban, known for his powerful contribution to the global Gqom movement. Rising from the streets of Avoca Hills, he began producing in 2014 and quickly developed a reputation for blending raw, underground rhythms with innovative sound design.

In 2016, his music reached international ears through releases on Gqom Oh!, connecting Durban’s local dance sound with a global audience. Since then, Citizen Boy has continued to shape the identity of Gqom while pushing its boundaries into Afro-Electronic and experimental spaces.

His latest release, “Ngijabule Ngijule” (2025) — a collaboration with Mashamplane and 726 — captures the spirit of joy through struggle, powered by heavy 808s, Zulu vocal energy, and raw street culture. It marks a new chapter in his journey, following a period of reflection and growth after the challenges of the pandemic era.

Citizen Boy’s music represents more than just club anthems — it’s the sound of Durban’s resilience, African creativity, and the next wave of global dance floors.
