Fraction of a Second

Revealing their first song of 2023, Christchurch based indie rock duo The Response return with new single. Opting to release their album one track at a time rather than all at once, the new song “Over The Moon” is the 8th release in the series. The farcical lyrics about not being able to slow down when confronted with the passing of time, coupled with the angular note choices and ceaseless rhythm make it feel like a chase scene in a thriller movie. Skittering drums and pulsing bass are punctuated by guitar that puts the whole song on edge.

A couple of years ago Stockport wouldn’t have been the first town in Greater Manchester that springs to mind when thinking about up and coming indie bands. Now however, it seems the south Manchester suburb is a hotbed for emerging talent, as more and more bands all vie for the sudden spotlight the town’s now under.
Cultures are one such band. However, their intelligent and idiosyncratic brand of indie rock succeeds in elevating them head and shoulders above their contemporaries. It’s this that has afforded the band support slots across some of Manchester’s most iconic venues, including Giant Rooks at Night & Day Café, Marsicans at The Deaf Institute - a venue the band have since gone on to headline in front of a rapturous audience, cementing themselves as one of Manchester’s most promising new bands.
It’s not just the city’s music fans that have got behind the band. Radio plays from the likes of BBC Introducing Manchester and Trafford Sounds have all got behind the smattering of singles the band have released.
For those that have been following the band for a while, it’s clear that 2019 has been their strongest year yet. With that in mind, 2020 is a year that’s clearly theirs for the taking, and with releases planned and more live announcements on the horizon, you can expect to see a lot more from Cultures as the year progresses.
