멋쟁이 고양이와 함께 ‘애시드 딕시랜드’로 여행을 떠나보자!

다양한 장르들을 접목한 애시드 퓨전 음악들을 꾸준히 발표하며 독창적인 창작 영역을 구축하고 있는 프로듀서 오리진이 2017년의 첫 싱글 “Cool Cat”을 발매했다.

“Cool Cat”은 전형적인 하우스 일렉 비트 위에 뉴올리언스 딕시랜드가 절묘하게 올려진 곡으로 재즈의 다양한 맛을 한 곡에서 맛 볼 수 있게 작곡된 애시드 트랙이다.

다양한 퓨전 재즈 음악이 범람하는 시대이지만 이 곡은 단순히 모던 일렉 비트 위에 딕시랜드 음악을 올린 흔한 믹스형 퓨전 음악은 아니다. 

2비트로 상징되는 딕시랜드의 전형적인 베이스가 아닌 4비트 워킹베이스가 곡을  이끌고 딕시랜드에는 없었던 간주 부분의 화려한 베이스 솔로가 빛을 발한다. 또한 래그타임의 흔적이 남은 피아노 리프와 딕시랜드의 밴조우를 대신하기 시작했던 일렉 리듬 기타가 곡에 따뜻함을 더한다.

또한 쿨재즈를 연상시키는 트럼펫과 앨토섹소폰 그리고 클라리넷의 즉흥연주가  곡 진행의 긴장감을 고취시키며 코러스 파트에서 메인을 리드하는 트럼본 라인이 이 곡을 완성시켰다.

다양한 악기와 어쩌면 상당히 이질감이 느껴질 수 있는 여러시대의 재즈 연주들이 너무나 자연스럽게 자신의 역할을 하며 한 곡을 이룬 수작이다.

이 곡은 세션맨의 도움 없이 오리진의 작.편곡과 연주 그리고 놀라운 시퀀싱 능력을 통해 완성된 곡이며 녹음, 믹싱, 마스터링 등의 모든 제작과정까지 홀로 이끌며 결국 표현하고 싶은 소리를 만족스럽게 완성했다고 한다.

2017년 동안 매달 한 곡의 애시드 싱글을 발매하려는 계획을 세웠다는 오리진의 놀라운 창작능력을 “Cool Cat”과 함께 마음껏 즐겨보도록 하자.
