This Mix Was Originally Released On Cassette As “Rare Equations” Through A Mix Tape Company Called Hip Hop Vibes Along With “Sick Experiment,” “Theories Not Yet Proven” And “The Diabolical” Which Came Before It. However This Mix Was My Favourite Because It Showcased Mixing All Kinds Of Music, Not Just The Latest Rap Singles Coming Out At The Time. This is a live all 45 mix made with one turntable and a loop pedal. It was constructed for Red Bull's 45 night on October 27 2008 in LA. This mix includes some cutting room floor ideas from The Hard Sell (DJ Shadow and I on 8 turntables and two loop pedals) and elements from what would later be part of my one turntable/loop pedal live mix CD "Sound Of The Police", which is out now.

Originally released in 2005 "A mix of everything you thought you heard".  There is a piece from every release I ever put out from 1992 to 2002 in this mix from a UCLA art student cd release, an underground rap compilation cassette,  J5, Ozomatli, mix cds with Shadow, remixes, etc...its all in there. I encourage folks to identify any piece you can.. Ill help with the hard ones.

The Litmus Test

Solid Steel in association with Serato (31st August) 3 years ago Solid Steel DJs Cheeba, Moneyshot and Food had the idea of collaborating on a version of the Beastie Boys‘ ‘Paul’s Boutique’ album made entirely from the original sample sources, shortly after Moneyshot aired his mix of their ‘Check Your Head’ album in the same way. 

Finally the result is here, titled ‘Caught In The Middle Of A 3-Way Mix’ - each of them have taken a third of the album to work on and combined their efforts into a mix that will make you hear it in a new way. Aside from the original sample sources they’ve included commentary from the Beasties, vintage interviews, demo versions and much more.

The mix was over half way completed when they heard the tragic news of MCA‘s death in May so the impetus to finish it was instantly doubled and new meaning given to the project. It goes without saying that this is also a tribute to Adam Yauch and the legacy he left behind and we hope it will be embraced by Beastie fans around the globe.

Recorded July 17, 2010 for Cinespia's screening of "Saturday Night Fever" at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.  Cut Chemist mixes up party time classics from 1973-1979.

Hip Hop Lives was recorded live for Adam 12s Afex night in 2008. Afex is one of LAs most prominent conceptual hip hop nights, covering the era from early eighties to mid nineties.
