...out of the woodwork - episode 56: guest mix - 6047 'dred bass'

An exciting horizon of textures, landscapes and evanescent worlds, close to a dreamlike experience, are synthesized in Espai, Temps i Materia, the title of the new HC Records reference signed by the Valencian duo Spammerheads, formed by Ana Escudero and David Garrido. An audio-visual project forged in 2019 under the punk concept "do it yourself" in which both sound and graphic creation (videos and covers) have been developed by the duo.

A warm reference formed by seven tracks leaded by the one giving title to the album. Espai, Temps i Materia introduces us to a silky and melodic set of gliding arpeggios intelligently backed by padding and shiny pads, a composition formed in two tempos over ten exciting minutes.

The overwhelming power of Cosmic Lunch hits us in a melodic spiral, where a composition in a continuous in crescendo in which sound layers are added and pushed by a thick and warm bass culminates in a satisfactory interruptus in the final stretch of the song, where that emotionality gives way to an epilogue full of mystery and dark atmospheres.

Singularidad Relativa fits perfectly with the previous track, immersing us in a bubbling oppressive atmosphere, where a pulsating and pungent synth goes by through a forest of smoked crystals and facing mirrors that confuse our senses and infuse us with a certain train atmosphere.

A Small Plot of Nothing is a blinding glow in the dark, where once again Spammerheads bring us closer to a futuristic dance floor in which dominant cadences are allied with an effective rhythmic structure in the key of a broken rhythm that serves as the basis for an immense dance of harmonic chains.

As if we found ourselves under a rain of unknown chemical compounds, Swinging Particles appears to us as a disturbing tubular composition where vibrant hi hats converse with acidic and tumultuous sequences that denote a comforting spiritual sense of unease.

The comeback to the stars converges in Chaos Routine, an oscillating space where sliding musical notes play with jumping and complementary harmonies, keeping total consistency with the general discourse of the sound narration.

The counter-rhythms appear in Beware Out There, closing the album and finishing it off in an exciting and ascending journey in search of a melancholic epic that takes us back to the atmospheres created in the mystery and science fiction series of past decades.

An edition composed of twenty-five cassettes in which we differentiate between the standard edition, where the graphic art is conducted by the neat and advanced design of Dani Requeni performing a creative tandem with Spammerheads and their special edition (five units), created by the musicians themselves, with a spectacular cover that simulates a mineral formation using clay and paint.

Finally, the mastering duties have been carried out in Berlin by Daniel Kyo giving it an unbeatable sound finish.

Dim light is a record label owner and a DJ based in Berlin.
Being a music nerd since his early youth, he got into listening to electronic music around 20 years ago. After several years of practicing all by himself he started releasing online mixes around 2011.

In 2015 he launched Nemorous Records together with Anja Zaube and after that played a few selected gigs at events like Apathy at Grießmühle, Tokonoma in Kassel oder Smallroom in Bielefeld, sharing the decks with artists like Talker and Oake.

In 2017 he finally started his own brainchild Voidance Records, so far releasing 5 EPs and 2 tapes and hosting 2 showcases in 2019. Voidance Records deals with the darkest strains of the electronic music genre, hosting new as well as established artists like Meer, Chafik Chennouf&Katsunori Sawa and Llimbs, to name but a few.

Dim Light‘s musical influences range from all different genres like Ambient, Black Metal, Electroacoustic music or Techno, which also reflects in his sets.

Good rock music quite often turns out to be the soundtrack of a great inner cinema, too. In case of Dazed Pilots, initially formed as a one-man glam punk show by Mynthen in 201 2, by now rebelling as a twosome with Geise, pictures of England in the early 1 980s re-emerge: "Iron Lady" Margaret Thatcher disjoints the working class with merciless force, industrial landscapes lie idle, become ruins. From all that a leaden depression grows. A young and ireful generation angrily shouts their heads off, therefore invents a sound, that is way more than music and slogans just. Dazed Pilots' inner cinema is documentary and poetic at the same time, coarse, shaky hand camera shots in black and white, close-ups on an angered and uproarious attitude towards life. A bunch of legendary heroes in the closing credits: The Fall's Mark E. Smith pops in, so does a Mr. Lydon. With their sophomore album, Dazed Pilots celebrate a creative, unadorned power plant reminiscent of a sound, that already emerged several generations prior. However, their music grows out of the here and now. On stage Dazed Pilots navigate their final descent in a nose dive at full thrust. Take a seat in the first class, maximum legroom guaranteed ... because there is no exit!

Their rejection of being a sheer product is what kept Dazed Pilots from decisive progression straight into the hyper-tatooed canon of concreteness. Cause, if we 're honest, aren 't people with immutable perspectives nothing else than people that have difficulty with diversity? Dazed Pilots are a rock band. Their songs could appeal to people who consider Peter Murphy's sound as not wasted enough. Who acquire a taste for Rock'n'Roll Suicide's Bowie or who feel that they 're in good hands in Dax Riggs' sinister world of ideas. Though this is something they would never ever admit. These two dodgy guys, most definitely still uncertain today what to put on tomorrow's schedule, managed to capture this sensation in music. Cluelessness, chaos, disorientation, frenzy, regret, anxiety. Not as a gloomy swan song, but as a declaration of war. Just like in everyday life, when you just don't know which way to go.
